Source: www.bulldogs.com.auFamilies staying at Ronald McDonald House in Randwick and Westmead to support their seriously ill children innhospital won't be going without this Christmas despite being away from home and having to cope with the burden of expensive medical treatments.
Australia's favourite Christmas hamper company Chrisco, Camp Quality and Canterbury Bulldogs players, including NRL legend Terry Lamb and Captain Andrew Ryan, have joined forces to deliver stuffed toys and food hampers jam-packed with favourite Aussie treats and staples on Tuesday, just in time for Christmas.
The two houses cater for close to 50 families from outlying areas at one time so they can stay close to hospital while their child is being treated. Camp Quality Sydney Area Manager, Janne Hardy, said doctors do their best to send children home for Christmas but many will be too sick to go.
"Either way, families face increasing pressures at this special time of year when all they want to do is celebrate being together," Ms Hardy said.
"Many parents are forced to give up their jobs when their children are diagnosed with a debilitating disease and find it hard to afford the basics let alone the luxuries. For those who do get to go home, it is often to an unstocked pantry because mum or dad hasn't had the chance to do the shopping," she said.
Chrisco owner, Richard Bradley, said the company is delighted to be able to brighten the lives of sick children and their loved ones ahead of the festive season.
"We are a family-owned business so family values are at the core of everything we do. We feel privileged to be able to add some Christmas cheer to what would normally be a bleak time of year," he said.
Items in the hampers include delicious Christmas puddings, bon bons, biscuits, breakfast cereals and condiments, pasta sauces, a wide range of canned goods, chocolates, lollies as well as some essential home and personal care items.
Lamb and Captain Ryan will be joined by fellow team mates Lee Te Maari, Corey Payne and Mickey Paea to hand deliver the gifts as an extension of the Bulldogs' successful partnership with Camp Quality.
In addition to the hampers donated to Ronald McDonald House, Chrisco will also distribute a truck load of goodies to struggling, drought-stricken households in western New South Wales through SydneyCare as well as to families in need through Mission Australia.
Chrisco also arranged a special shipment of Aussie treats and staples to troops serving in Afghanistan, the Solomon Islands and Timor earlier this week.
