Thaiday earns recall, Kaufusi's debut on hold, Lions not yet named
Tue October 31, 2006
by Matthew O'Neill
Antonio Kaufusi will have to wait to make his Test debut after being ruled out of Saturday's Tri Nations clash against Great Britain at Aussie Stadium in Sydney.

Powerful Brisbane forward Sam Thaiday will come into the side in place of Kaufusi. Thaiday was extremely unlucky to be dropped from the Australian side following the five-point victory against New Zealand in Melbourne where he was impressive off the bench and more so than Anthony Tupou.

Australian coach Ricky Stuart had originally made five changes to the squad and one positional swap, which has now been cut down to four changes with Thaiday earning a reprieve.

Matt King, Justin Hodges, Johnathan Thurston and Andrew Ryan have all been axed with their places taken by Brent Tate, Jamie Lyon, Ben Hornby and Willie Mason with the latter returning from injury.

Great Britain are yet to name their side with Kirk Yeaman and Gareth Raynor contenders for outside back positions as the futures of Keith Senior and Brian Carney are representative players must surely be at risk.

Australia team vs Great Britain, Saturday 4th November, Aussie Stadium, 8.00pm:

Karmichael Hunt, Brent Tate, Mark Gasnier, Jamie Lyon, Greg Inglis, Darren Lockyer (capt), Ben Hornby, Mark O'Meley, Shaun Berrigan, Petero Civoniceva, Willie Mason, Nathan Hindmarsh, Luke O'Donnell. Subs: Cameron Smith, Anthony Tupou, Brent Kite, Sam Thaiday.

Mason out of Tri Nations clash, Thaiday to make Test debut
Fri October 20, 2006
by Matthew O'Neill
Australian forward Willie Mason will miss tomorrow night's Tri Nations clash against New Zealand in Melbourne after failing to overcome concussion following Australia's 30-18 victory last week.

Mason was hit in the cheekbone area by Kiwi forward David Kidwell in last Saturday's spiteful clash that has seen Mason on the front pages of Sydney newspapers and the major talking point on radio (no surprise).

The only chance now that Mason has of facing Kidwell again is if the Kiwis are good enough to defeat Great Britain to claim the second spot in the Tri Nations Final.

Brisbane and Queensland forward Sam Thaiday will make his Test debut in the place of Mason with Roosters forward Anthony Tupou also making his debut following Reni Maitua being ruled out of the Tri Nations.

Mark O'Meley was named originally on the bench after starting last week in a last minute switch with Mason has now been officially called into the starting side. Andrew Ryan is the new lock forward in Maitua's absence.

Australia will go into tomorrow night's clash as very warm favourites and they could have easily won last weeks Test by much more than the 12 points they won by.

Congratulations to Thaiday and Tupou for making their Test debuts.

Australia: Karmichael Hunt, Matt King, Mark Gasnier, Justin Hodges, Greg Inglis, Darren Lockyer [c], Johnathan Thurston, Mark O'Meley, Cameron Smith, Petero Civoniceva, Nathan Hindmarsh, Luke O'Donnell, Andrew Ryan. Subs: Shaun Berrigan, Brent Kite, Anthony Tupou, Sam Thaiday.

On another note, thankyou to all our readers for their support of the website in the last two weeks and to the authors that allowed the website to flow with news items, editortials, reports and press releases as I was enjoying two relaxing weeks in Northern NSW and South-East Queensland. There's still five more weeks of the season to go and than before we know it the Boxing Day clashes in England will be upon us.
