Source: www.melbournestorm.com.auMelbourne Storm has today received a double dose of great news with its final game of 2010 officially a sell out and the re-signing of a number of key players.
The second ticket allocation released yesterday for the Storm's September 5 "Thank You" game against Newcastle Knights at AAMI Park sold out by 10.00pm last night.
Fans yesterday rushed to grab the final 2,000 tickets on offer, for the special price of $1, after the initial allocation was exhausted in less than 24 hours after going on sale.
Storm was offering the $1 tickets as a "Thank You" to Melbourne for its ongoing support in 2010.
The Club will be donating all ticket proceeds from this match to Ovarian Cancer Australia ? who will be the Storm's final 'Points with a Purpose' charity partner for this season.
In what is sure to be a fitting tribute to the Storm's departing player list, which includes fan favourites Greg Inglis, Brett White, Ryan Hoffman, Jeff Lima, Brett Finch and Aiden Tolman, a sea of purple is now set to descend on AAMI Park to witness the club's electrifying brand of Rugby League for the final time this year.
News of the sell-out came as the Storm bolstered its 2011 squad with a number of key re-signings as well, as the recruitment of off-contract props Adam Woolnough and Troy Thompson, and young New Zealand Warriors winger Elijah Niko.
The Storm is also pleased to announce today that the club has officially re-signed Dane Nielsen, Bryan Norrie, Justin O'Neill, Luke Kelly, Rory Kostjasyn and Robbie Rochow to contract extensions.
Neilsen, Norrie, O'Neill and Kostjasyn have all re-signed for a further two seasons, while Kelly and Rochow have both extended their contracts until the end of 2011.
All of these players had agreed to terms with the club over the past month but only officially signed off on their new deals today.
The contingent will form a 2011 roster that includes Australian and New Zealand Test players Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk, Adam Blair, Billy Slater and Sika Manu.
"This is great news for the club," Storm coach Craig Bellamy said.
"Melbourne is a tremendous place for young players to develop both as men and as footballers and we believe all of these players will play a big role for the Storm in 2011."
O'Neill, Kelly and Rochow all played in the Storm's Under-20's premiership winning team in 2009, along with current NRL squad members Jesse Bromwich, Dane Chisholm, Matt Duffie, Kevin Proctor and Gareth Widdop.
Woolnough, 29, and Thompson, 30, have been recruited to the Storm to inject experience into the club's forward pack in 2011.
Woolnough in particularly will be more than fresh having spent the past nine months on a year's break from the game overseas.
Speaking from Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was about to embark on a four-day African safari, Woolnough said he was relishing the return to the NRL and could not wait to start pre-season training.
"Since I started playing first-grade I'd always had this bug inside me willing me to experience the world before I get too old," said Woolnough.
"Over the past 12 months I've been lucky enough to do that just with my wife.
"We discussed it while we were overseas and we decided that if the right offer was to come along then I would consider returning to rugby league.
"When it was Melbourne that made that offer I jumped at the opportunity. My body's refreshed and I'm ready to go."
Storm plays Wests Tigers this Sunday at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney.
