Source: www.superleague.co.ukA four-try man-of-the-match performance by Danny Tickle helped Hull FC to a crushing defeat of Stobart Super League new boys Widnes Vikings at the KC Stadium.
Hull's biggest win of the season reinforced their play-off credentials and sent a message to the top four they may have extra competition this year in the form of Peter Gentle's side.
Beaten only once in 2012, Hull have quietly gone about their business so far this year, but will have made many sit up and take notice with the manner they relentlessly ripped the Vikings apart with a 10-try display.
Unfortunately for Widnes coach Dennis Betts, the heroics which brought his side a shock one-point win at home to Wigan Warriors last week were nowhere to be seen.
The Vikings have now conceded 310 points already this season, an alarming figure after just seven games.
Hull showed no concern for the visitors' plight, however, and went after their opponents relentlessly - running in tries at will.
The hosts never looked in any danger of losing the match after racing into a quick 12-point lead thanks to tries from second-row duo Tickle and Willie Manu.
Hull captain Andy Lynch and scrum-half Brett Seymour hand a hand in the build-up of both scores, and when Lynch went on his own with a solo effort from 10 metres out, Hull had already amassed a formidable lead without really even breaking sweat.
Hull's victories this season have been built on the meanest defence in Super League, but it was their work with the ball in hand which caught the eye.
Holding the upper hand, they found the freedom to be more expansive and it worked to their favour when Tickle crashed over for his second try of the game on the 20-minute mark.
On the last tackle, Tickle's presence alone on the touchline seemed to go unnoticed by a Widnes defence expecting the ball to be kicked cross-field, but when the alert Seymour shifted his position and found Tickle, the Vikings were helpless to prevent his second and Hull's fourth try.
Worse was to follow for Betts' men when Tickle completed his hat-trick, this time taking an inside pass 20 metres out before carving through the Widnes defence with alarming ease.
The game was won and the floodgates then opened. Manu popped up on the end of a Danny Houghton pass for his second, before Richard Whiting and Sam Moa got in on the act.
When Tickle crossed again Hull had nine tries, all from forwards. Winger Tom Briscoe then finished off a break under the posts to complete their scoring.
With a quarter of the game remaining Hull should have scored more, but to their credit Widnes kept going and, while it was scant reward, two late tries for Paddy Flynn at least gave their travelling support something to cheer.

Source: www.hullfc.comHull FC have today confirmed that sought-after second-rower Danny Tickle has agreed a new contract at the club.
It's rumoured that the Black and Whites have fought off strong competition from other clubs to secure Tickle's signature for a further three years.
Speaking to www.hullfc.com, Tickle said, "Ultimately I want to win some trophies, I have been close now on four occasions and still not achieved it, so that was a major part of my decision and why I have chosen to stay at Hull.
"It is a club I love, with some great people. The staff, the coaches and all the players are great and I have some really good friends here," he said.
Tickle has taken some time to make his decision before putting pen to paper on his new deal, but in the end he could only settle for one outcome.
"It is a decision I wanted to take some time over and it has been on my mind a lot recently and I had to consider what was best for me and my family," Tickle commented.
"However, I made the decision easy for myself when I knew I wanted success because I feel that Hull FC is where I can achieve something."
The former Wigan and Halifax man also added, "Rich is a great coach and a good bloke and he has assembled a really good squad with some talented players and I think we can really achieve something here, so I wanted to be part of that.
"It is a club where I feel I have developed and learned a lot from various people and now I want to repay that by playing to my best and helping them lift a trophy."
Hull FC head coach Richard Agar is delighted that Tickle has agreed a new deal and knows he is a big player for the Black and Whites.
"I am delighted that we have secured the services of Danny on a longer term deal, he plays a lot of games, a lot of minutes and is a top line goal kicker for us and for those reasons he would be an integral part of any side," he said.
"He is a player that brings a lot to the table, he is an important part of the group and the rest of the boys enjoy playing with him."
Agar added, "We know it was a difficult decision for him as he had a lot to consider, most importantly his family and we have done all we can to support him and we are understandably delighted that he sees his future at the KC Stadium.
"We are pleased he is committed to Hull FC and committed to trying to achieve success here and we feel he can be a vital part of realising our ambitions over the next few seasons."
Tickle, who will play his 100th game for Hull against Huddersfield Giants on Sunday, has been one of the standout players for Richard Agar's side this term.
During his three and half seasons so far he has proved to be one of the clubs most influential players, helping them to the Challenge Cup Final in 2008 in which he scored three goals.
Now though, Tickle has his eyes set on a repeat appearance in a major final, but this time, with a more positive outcome to repay the unwavering support from the Old Faithful who never fail to impress him.
"Everyone in the world of Rugby League knows what the KC Stadium is all about on match days, but until you actually play here for Hull in front of the home fans here, you'd never go back anywhere else," he said.
"We have had a few difficult years since I got here, but they have never gone away, they have always stood by us and they are superb.
"It's great that I now have a further three years here and I hope that I can play my part in putting a few smiles on some of their faces as part of a winning team."
With a new deal now sorted and a further three years to try and achieve some silverware, Tickle's immediate priority is a Super League show down with the Huddersfield Giants and the small matter of his 100th appearance for the club.
The 27-year-old has made 13 appearances so far this season scoring 3 tries and 46 goals, helping him to a Hull FC tally of 25 tries and 314 goals adding up to a staggering 729 points in 99 appearances, including of course, his magic last minute drop goal against St.Helens just two weeks ago.
In fact, Tickle's points scoring achievements have been that good since making his debut for the Airlie Birds in 2007, just ten points at the weekend against the Giants would see him become the 14th highest points scorer for Hull FC as well as the 12th highest goal scorer in Hull FC history.
"When I saw the statistics this week, it did surprise me a little bit, but I have had a great time here at Hull FC and long may it continue," he said.
"To play your 100th game for any club is a great achievement, it is something I am looking forward to and I am sure it will be a mammoth one.
"The timing probably couldn't be any better for me to get my 100th game and to celebrate a new contract at the same time, so it will be a memorable occasion and we'll do all we can to get a win."
