Turner re-signs with the Raiders

Tough Raiders second row forward Glen Turner will remain in green for the next two seasons, after agreeing to a new two year deal with the Green Machine.

Turner, 29, is currently out for the year with an ankle injury, but has been an instrumental part of the Raiders forward pack over the past two seasons, since joining the club from the Melbourne Storm at the end of 2006.

Turner said he's happy to have his future sorted by remaining in Canberra, and looked forward to a bright and prosperous future with the up and coming Raiders outfit.

"My wife and I are settled in Canberra and it's a great place to live so we're happy to stay for another two years," Turner said. "There are some great young players coming through here at the Raiders and I think we have a strong future."

The re-signing of Turner bolsters the Raiders forward stocks for the next two years, and also gives the young Raiders some more experience in the forwards to go along with senior front rowers Troy Thompson and Scott Logan.

Raiders CEO Don Furner said Turner has been a great buy for the club so far, and believes his experience and work rate will be a great asset for the Green Machine going forward.

"Glen has been great for the club since joining us from the Storm and we're very happy that he's agreed to stay with us for a further two seasons," Furner said. "We have some great player's coming through the juniors and to have a player of Glen's experience helping them into first grade can only be a positive for the club."

Furner said Turner's leadership qualities were also a big plus for the team, and looked forward to seeing him back in action in 2009.

"Glen is part of our senior leadership group and always has plenty to add when it comes to the decision making process of the players," Furner said. "He's had an unlucky run this year with injury but we can't wait to have him back on deck in 2009."

Glen Turner signs with the Raiders

Tough Melbourne Storm second-row forward Glen Turner has signed a new two year deal with the Canberra Raiders, in a move that will see him playing for the green machine until the end of 2008.

Turner comes to Canberra after a six year stint with the Melbourne outfit, and said he is ready to take on the new challenge of playing for the Raiders, in what is shaping up to be a young Canberra side.

"Canberra was a big attraction for me and I'm ready to start a new chapter in my career," Turner said. "It's been a disappointing year for me with injury, but I will be ready to start pre-season training with the Raiders and be ready for when the season starts."

Turner said he is looking forward to working with some of the Raiders young forwards, including Michael Weyman, Tom Learoyd-Lahrs and Dane Tilse, and experienced players such as Alan Tongue and Lincoln Withers.

"There are a lot of young forwards in Canberra coming through the ranks and I will be there to help them along the way," he said. "Canberra seems like a team that is on the way up, and I can't wait to be a part of that."

Raider's general manager Don Furner said Turner will give the Raiders the experience they need in the back row, and assist the Raiders up and coming forwards with their development.

"Glen is a seasoned campaigner and a great signing for the club," Furner said. "He is a fine player and just what the club needs after the departure of some of our seasoned campaigners."

Born in New Zealand, Turner played for the junior Kiwi's in 1998 before making his debut with the Storm in late 2000.
