Champion replaces Walker at halfback
Tue March 21, 2006
by Matthew O'Neill
Football for the Rabbitohs finally returns to the field when Souths take on St George Illawarra at Telstra Stadium this coming Sunday with kickoff at 2:30pm.

The future of Souths off the field has been sorted out with members emphatically voting more than 3:1 in favour of the proposal from Peter Holmes a Court and Russell Crowe to take the Rabbitohs into a new era and even more decisively decided to end the regime of George Piggins. The players, coaching staff and management at Souths can now turn all their energies to the Football field.

Youngster Beau Champion returns from an ankle injury and replaces Ben Walker at halfback. Walker is still feeling the effects after being knocked out in a tackle, which resulted in Roosters enforcer Adrian Morley being suspended for two matches.

Mark Minichiello (shoulder) and Adam MacDougall (ankle) weren't considered due to injury along with Walker whilst Luke MacDougall is still out serving a long suspension from last year.

Telstra Stadium will host two grades of Rugby League this Sunday with the Rabbitohs taking on the Dragons in Premier League at 12:40pm followed by the NRL clash between the Rabbitohs and the Dragons scheduled for a 2:30pm kick off. Gates will open at Telstra Stadium at 12:30pm on Sunday.

Tickets for the Rabbitohs vs Dragons match are available through Ticketek at www.ticketek.com.au or 132 849.

Referee for the clash will be Jason Robinson, the same man who was in charge during the Rabbitohs controversial loss against the Roosters in the opening round.
