The following is a release from Shane Webcke on his decision to stand down from his role with the Brisbane Broncos NRL team.
"It is with sincere regret that I today resign from the position of assistant coach with the Brisbane Broncos.
"It is a position that I have cherished, however in light of my actions surrounding the publishing of my book and some of the content contained within, I feel it is inappropriate for me to retain the role.
"I have visited undue stress and attention on the playing and coaching staff at a time when all energies should be focused upon preparation for upcoming matches, rather than wasted on events of the past.
"I am truly sorry, and in acknowledging my distinct error in judgment, I feel the price I must pay is to relinquish the privilege that it is to work with the Broncos' squad.
"In no way have the Broncos' administration, coaching or playing staff pressured me into this decision, it has been of my own making.
"And given my recent public comments about 'suffering the consequences of our actions', I feel it would hypocritical of me in the extreme not to heed my own advice.
"I will continue working for the Broncos on the corporate side of things and remain committed and loyal to the club. I remain an ardent supporter of the team itself and feel sure that 2009 will be again a winning season.
"My apologies to all Broncos supporters for dredging up events that should be consigned to history."

The National Rugby League has stopped a bookmaker making direct payments to Sydney Roosters fullback Anthony Minichiello as part of a sponsorship deal, Rugby League Week has revealed today.
As the Roosters continue to make headlines, chief executive Steve Noyce tells the magazine that they wanted bookmaking firm LuxBet to employ the former Golden Boot winner as a spokesman in exchange for a $50,000 marquee player position.
But NRL chief executive David Gallop tells RLW: "After discussions at the last CEOs meeting, we've advised clubs that we are uncomfortable with any proposed arrangement under which individual players are paid to endorse a particular betting agency.''
Minichiello is off contract at the end of the season and out for three months with an ankle injury, giving the situation added gravitas. Controversy has swirled around the Roosters in recent days with Willie Mason and Nate Myles dropped for drinking at home.
Elsewhere in Rugby League Week, Mark Geyer accuses Shane Webcke of hypocrisy over his controversial book in one of his hard-hitting columns.
"He has spent the last week doing backflips - to me Webcke comes out of it all as a hypocrite,'' the former Australia star writes.
Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens says he is concerned about superstar Benji Marshall burning out. "He just does extra kicking sessions, extra goalkicking sessions, extra weight sessions and extra sprint sessions as well as sessions with Andrew Johns,'' Sheens says.
Brisbane skipper Darren Lockyer is also poised to be rested this season, while St George Illawarra's Neville Costigan fires up Friday's Broncos clash by saying: "The way I left Brisbane was very disappointing and every time I play against them I want to prove a point.''
Nathan Fien is ready to quit the Warriors, Parramatta's Brett Finch says his team is still guilty of being "selfish" and will "get smashed" by the Roosters if they continue while David Williams talks about leaving Manly.
