Source: www.league.quins.co.ukHarlequins regret to announce their preseason match against Crusaders scheduled to be played this Saturday 16th January at Rosslyn Park has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
The decision was made after it became clear Crusaders RL would be unable to travel from North Wales to London due to the worst winter weather in decades.
The fixture was due to be the testimonial match for Harlequins winger Jon Wells, the first London player to be granted a testimonial year and one of only a handful of players to have featured in every year of Super League.
The club will now seek to hold an event later in the year to celebrate Jon's contribution to Rugby League.
Harlequins head coach, Brian McDermott, said that whilst the cancellation is a disappointment, his side will be ready for the new Super League season:
"Whilst this is a huge disappointment for everyone at the club and Jon in particular, we have to work with the hand we have been dealt.
"This makes our match against London Skolars at the HAC next Friday our only preseason fixture; we expect a tough, competitive game and will be taking the match very seriously.
"The weather this year has put every other Super League club is in the same situation, so we will be as prepared as the next team when the new season starts.
"I'd like to thank Rosslyn Park for all their help in trying to put on this fixture."
Brain Noble, Crusaders head coach, said:
"It's very disappointing that we weren't able to play this game. I wish Jon all the best in his testimonial year; he is a consummate professional who is up there with the best on his day."
Harlequins now focus their attentions towards the ETF Securities Capital Challenge on Friday 22nd January (1.45pm) when they play London Skolars at the HAC in central London. Tickets are available for £15 by calling 0208 888 4888.
Anyone who has purchased a ticket for Saturday's match is entitled to a full refund from the ticket office. You should post your tickets by recorded delivery to the below address by 30th January and will receive your refund in due course.
If they choose not to request a refund after January 30th all ticket proceeds will go directly to the Jon Wells Testimonial fund.

Source: www.league.quins.co.ukHarlequins Rugby League is pleased to announce a preseason friendly against Crusaders Rugby League on Saturday 16th January (5pm KO). The game will be in aid of the Jon Wells Testimonial fund.
The match will be the first of a series of events during Jon Wells' testimonial year to celebrate the career of the Harlequins back, one of only a handful of players to have played in every year of Super League.
In an exciting move, the match will be played at Rosslyn Park FC and is to form a cross-code rugby double header, with fans able to see Rosslyn Park tackle local rivals Richmond FC before the two Super League sides clash.
The match will form a vital part of Harlequins' preparations for the 2010 season and follows the recent announcement of the Capital Challenge against London Skolars on Friday 22nd January at the HAC ground in the City of London.
The Crusaders match will be Harlequins' only preseason game against Super League opposition and also marks the first time the Londoners have met the Welsh side since the coaching appointments of Brian Noble and Iestyn Harris.
Jon Wells said today:
"I am very excited about the Testimonial match; it is a huge gesture by both Harlequins and the Crusaders and for that I am very grateful.
"The back end of last season was a testing time for us as a team and for me personally, but past form and injuries are done with now and we can look forward to a run out and tune up before the season starts.
"I look forward to seeing everyone there."
Harlequins Rugby League head coach, Brian McDermott, said:
"This is a very important match for the club, both in terms of our preparations for next season and in celebrating Jon's contribution to rugby league.
"As our only preseason match against a Super League club, it will be a crucial part of our build up. A lot of changes have taken place at Crusaders since we last played against them and they'll be really fired up for this one, as will we.
"Jon Wells has been a loyal servant to this club and Super League, and I hope you can join us to support him and celebrate his career."
Crusaders head coach, Brian Noble, said:
"Jon is a consummate professional who is up there with the best on his day. He is loyal to the core, 10 years of Super League and his lengthy service to what was London Broncos and now Harlequins, is an exceptional achievement and that's why he deserves his testimonial year. I know that he is well liked and always gives 100%. He is a coach's dream player."
Tickets are available now for only £10 for adults and £5 for under 16's and concessions. Call 0871 527 1315 or visit www.quins.co.uk to purchase online.
Supporter are urged to support Jon by buying their tickets in advance to guarantee that all profits from ticket sales go to the Jon Wells Testimonial fund.
Throughout his testimonial year, Jon will be supporting the Melanoma Foundation. The Melanoma Foundation is a local charity which helps to fund study of the causes, prevention and management of melanoma as well as raising public awareness of the condition and research into a cure.
Malignant Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer and its incidence is unfortunately increasing rapidly in the UK. For more details visit www.melanoma.sgul.ac.uk
