Source: www.cairns.com.auNorthern Pride captain Ty Williams believes his team has rediscovered some of their mojo ahead of this weekend's clash against reigning premiers Wynnum Manly at Barlow Park.
The Pride broke a four-game losing streak against the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles at home on Saturday night, grinding out a crucial 26-12 result to relieve the growing pressure at the club.
Williams, who scored a try in the second half, said the victory would boost the Pride's preparation for ladder leaders Wynnum Manly.
"It's definitely a good stepping stone for the next two weeks considering we're at home then away and then back at home," the former Cowboys winger said.
"It's a good chance to build a platform to have a good crack at the back end of the season.
"We'll take a lot of positives out of the win.
"It'll help us out at training. We'll be upbeat even more because we've had that win."
The Pride were far from polished against the Sea Eagles, especially in the first half when the scores were locked at 6-all, but coach David Maiden was content to win ugly considering his side's recent struggles.
"It was a grafting win,'' Maiden said.
''We're still not quite there.
''We haven't been in good form the last month or so and the results have said that.
"It's a work in progress. I saw definite improvement at training during the week and the guys really grafted it out.
"They're just starting to do those little one percenters again and turn up for each other, and that's important. "We're still looking for that magic switch to get it all back to perfect, but that was a tough win."
The Pride broke the Sea Eagles' resolve late in the second half when substitute Chey Bird and Cowboys forward Blake Leary barged over in the final 10
minutes.
Williams said the Pride needed to show some resolve given they hadn't won since round two.
"It's been a long month," he said. "To break the drought is a credit to the boys and it was through hard work and desperation."

Source: www.qrl.com.auNORTHERN Pride coach David Maiden is bracing himself for some unwanted news after inspirational skipper Ty Williams failed to complete Saturday night's round nine Intrust Super Cup match against Souths Logan.
Williams, a former Cowboys and Queensland Maroons Origin star, will have scans on a bicep injury that forced him from the field with about 15 minutes remaining.
"It doesn't look good for him unfortunately," Maiden said.
Before heading to the dressing rooms, Williams scored one of the Pride's six tries in their 36-6 victory at Barlow Park.
Incredibly, the Magpies led 6-0 at half-time before conceding six converted tries in the second half to the rampant home outfit.
Maiden conceded his team struggled in the opening 40 minutes.
"We didn't complete sets and Souths were in our face and put plenty of pressure on us," he said.
However, the Magpies were down on troops in the second half and simply ran out of legs.
The Magpies' own injury woes came on top of the loss of fullback David Milne, who was struck down by a stomach bug on the way to Cairns and didn't take the field.
Maiden was delighted with his team's performance in the wake of their first loss of the season the previous weekend.
"It was pleasing to see us respond that way," he said.
Jake Leary was the Pride's players' player, while Chey Bird also impressed with his cool head at the back and last ditch defence.
