Source: www.cowboys.com.auA visit to the Matt Scott Cup under-11 carnival in Ilfracombe will be one of the highlights of a five-day tour of Queensland's Central West by a contingent from the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys next week.
With assistance from the Department of Sport and Recreation, the Cowboys group will visit 12 schools as well as junior and senior clubs in the district to develop and promote grassroots rugby league.
Making the trip will be Cowboys development manager Dean Payne, recruitment manager Adrian Thompson, development officer Gavin Lloyd, QRL development officer Andrew Lawrence, Toyota Cup forward Sam Hoare and injured NRL centre Antonio Winterstein.
Winterstein will take time out from his rehabilitation of shoulder and pectoral injuries to link up with the group from Tuesday to Thursday.
His agenda includes visits to Ilfracombe State School, Blackall Rugby League Club for juniors and seniors training, St Josephs Blackall, Blackall State School, Aramac State School, Barcaldine State School and the School of the Air at Longreach.
"It's a part of Queensland I haven't seen much of before and it will be great to see all our Cowboys supporters and rugby league fans who live in the Central West," Winterstein said.
The Matt Scott Cup, named in honour of the North Queensland co-captain who grew up in Ilfracombe, just east of Longreach, is contested by primary schools in the Central West.
In its in second year, the cup will feature six teams and will end the five-day tour which starts in Winton on Monday.
"We're looking forward to a great five days in the Central West and would like to thank everyone who has made our tour possible," Payne said.
"The kids in the region love their league, and there are plenty of Cowboys supporters there who we're looking forward to catching up with.
"We know we'll get a warm welcome and we hope we can make it a memorable week for everyone."

Source: www.cowboys.com.auNORTH Queensland Toyota Cowboys centre Antonio Winterstein will miss the rest of the 2011 NRL season after tearing his pectoral muscle in Saturday night's loss to Manly at Brookvale Oval.
Scans on Tuesday confirmed Winterstein had suffered a complete tear which will require an operation.
He will consult doctors in coming days to determine a date for surgery.
Winterstein sustained the injury early in the second half when he tried to tackle Manly's Steve Matai who went on to score the Sea Eagles' third try.
It has been a horror year for injuries for the former Brisbane Bronco who sustained a broken jaw in a pre-season match in Alice Springs which forced him out of the first five rounds in his first year with the Cowboys.
He joins fellow Cowboys backs Brent Tate, Willie Tonga, Shannon Gallant and Michael Bani on the injured list.
It is hoped that Tate (knee) and Tonga (shoulder) will be back in round 18, while Gallant recently underwent groin injury which will sideline him for several weeks.
Bani is on the comeback trail from an ankle injury and will soon resume training with the NRL squad.
