Outstanding Canberra Raiders fullback William Zillman has agreed to a four year deal with the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans, with the talented twenty one year old set to join his new team mates on the tourist strip for the start of the club's 2009 campaign.

It's a home coming of sorts for the former Junior Kangaroo and Australian invitational thirteen representative who played his junior football with Logan Brothers, and Queensland Cup with the South's - Logan Magpies.

"I am really excited about the prospect of joining the Gold Coast Titans and I have always had a desire to come home to Queensland and play in the NRL," Zillaman said.

"I have seen the Titans plans for their Centre of Excellence and their incredible stadium. They are a Club that is on the rise and I can see big things happening there in the future. I felt this was too good an opportunity to pass up. My family lives in south east Queensland and being able to play in front of them every second week will be really special for my family and I.

"I sincerely want to thank all of the people at the Raiders and I think they understand that I really miss home and this is a great chance for me to come back to Queensland."

After making his NRL debut in 2006, Zillman has emerged as one of the code's most exciting young stars with Titans Coach John Cartwright saying Zillman will be a valuable asset for the Titans on and off the field.

Cartwright said, "William is an extremely versatile player with fantastic footwork and turn of speed, the fact that he is as comfortable playing five-eighth as he is in the number one jersey makes him a great acquisition for the club as we continue to develop a formidable playing roster.

"To be a member of your NRL club's leadership team at just nineteen years of age speaks volumes about his maturity on and off the field. William fits our criteria of looking at the person as well as the player perfectly."

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans Managing Director Michael Searle is also looking forward to the young star arrival.

"The Club is extremely happy to secure the services of William and he will become an integral part of our plans for the next four years.

"William is a fantastic young man and a Queenslander who will be a great ambassador for the Titans and rugby league for many years to come.

"We have met with his family and they are all excited about the prospect of William coming home and we are pleased to have a young man of such calibre joining our Club. William is a future star in our game."

Dobson named Raiders halfback for opening round

Canberra Raiders halfback Michael Dobson will make his NRL debut on Saturday night, after he was named in the number seven for the season opener against Manly at Brookvale Oval.

Dobson joins fellow young gun William Zillman in the Raiders starting line-up, after the quick footed Zillman was named at fullback for the opening match.

Zillman said he is looking forward to his return to first grade, and is keen to make an impact in his return to the senior side.

"I'm very happy to be in first grade after a long pre-season and we're already excited about this weekend and can't wait.

"I just want to get out there and play my best game and at the moment I think that's running the ball, and getting the ball in my hands."

Zillman said that feeling of being involved is something he is ready for, but also said he is just glad to be in the starting side regardless of his position.

"I want to be around the ball all night and push up in support, and that's the best way to get my hands on the ball and some room to move," he said. "I like the free range you get at fullback but it's also good in the centres running a bit wider, and even the halves have their positives."

Raiders Coach Neil Henry said the doubt surrounding David Howell had led to Zillman's naming at fullback, and said the young backline prospects form in the trials has warranted selection for round one.

"Around the fullback and centre spot with David Howell looking doubtful was the decision that had to be made.

"It gives us a chance to look at William at fullback as he has seemed very comfortable there, and Marshall Chalk has been very good in the centres for us."

Henry said the halves were also a tightly contested selection battle, but he was happy with the way things had panned out.

"Michael Dobson and Todd Carney trialed very well in the halves, and Andrew Dunemann adds some utility of the bench with his ability to play halfback and hooker," he said.

Raiders prop Michael Weyman was ruled out today after aggravating a quad injury at training yesterday, and will now look for a round three return.
