My team of penrith greats would read this way...
1-Anthony Xureb- Only player suremane starting with x
2-Nathan Barnes-Schoolboy sensation, went to newcastle then windsor
3-Joe Dakuitonga-fijian flyer, went nose to nose with robbie odavis
4-Vermu Dikidikilatu- absent
5-Craig Wise- big signing from hunter mariners
6-Craig Trindall-Potentially the greatest 28year-old second string #7
7-Tulsen Tollett-australian career cut short(joined parramatta)
8-Ben Sologinkin-Arguably the best name ray warren has ever groaned
9-Brett Boyd-Career highlight-91 res grade gf win with canberra
10-Nigel Gaffey-the gaff, nobody messed with the gaff
11-Joe Vitanza-dropped his first touch of the ball in 90 gf, canberra scored, goodnight pennies
12-Colin Ward-The last grandfather to play the game at the top level
13-Jody Gall-career cut short when he had a gall stone
r-Butch Fatnowa- see gall but his last name

Rhys Wesser is head and shoulders above any other fullback penrith has had.(need i remind you of the jorgenson debacle?)
He has the try scoring record..He is consistent...an origin player and most of the fullbacks in recent times have either been over-rated(jorgo) ,just playing at the back because its the only place where there is room (alexander when freeman was at penrith) or wingers (hicks-adamson)
Im pretty suprised to see Alan McIndoe get a start. He played about 30 games for the club and will probably remebered more for his efforts at the steelers.
Im still a bit amazed about robbie beckett not even being nominated, the man played more than 150 games for the club.
And the biggest disappointment for me was Steve Carter, what does he have to do?
he played 244 games, stayed loyal to the club and wore his heart on his sleeve and never gave up.He played origin , city country, won a comp and captained the club.
He may not have been as flashy as others in the numnber 6 but gave his all.
MacIndoe was very lucky

penrith panthers.
i read with interest your greatest team over 40 years,i have been a permant member for ove 45 years and i don't agree with it .i think some of your experts need the same treatment as some of the players they left out. my opinion Matt Sing.for Alan Mcindoe. you have to be jokeing to leave Peter Kelly out. also england selected there best side for last 20 years and Mike Stevenson was the first man picked hard to see Royce over him.i knew Bill Ashurst well, he only played when he wanted to which wasn't very often.also it is . . a shame no
mention on Terry Wickey australian selectors used Terry as a bench mark as to who they would select to play for australia. al so Bob
Bobland made the hall of fame for BALmain.

Filter was disloyal to Penrith and Penrith's supporters and should never have been picked. He chased the big money at the Roosters with Phil Gould. When you're a supporter, Queen of the Burrow, it doesn't matter who runs the game, you just support your team and Filter was a traitor. A great player but a good club man should always be favoured over a man whose loyalty is to his bank account. Sweet revenge in 2003.

Fittler may have had better days after leaving SND but while he was there he was good enough to represent NSW and Australia so you definately have to pick him. Carter was a great player tho and was unlucky not to be picked - very consistent for the club.
Anton submitted on Friday 6 Oct 2006 10:50:54
I'm not saying he wouldn't have been loyal to Panthers. But his best days were at the Roosters. He finished his career as a Rooster.
SND submitted on Friday 6 Oct 2006 10:39:51
Fittler only left your club because your club decided to slum it with the other clubs who joined the news ltd circus.
He remained loyal unlike the club and had to leave.
Queen of the Burrow submitted on Friday 6 Oct 2006 9:34:35
Anton. I'm not saying that we should avoid a player because he played for more then one club. I just feel Fittler had his best days after leaving us... and while he was great for us... Carter was as good, only unlike Fittler... and most others even... he was with us his entire career.
Girdler was with us the majority of his career. We saw his best years... IMO he is the best player we have ever had. Just crazy the amount of records he has... he is still the highest scoring Origin player for a single match, and in the top 10 points scorers for Origin of all time, ahead of Darren Lockyer. Lockyer has played more then 4 times as many games and has fewer points.
Also, when Australia beat PNG... Girdler had a personal haul of 46 points. 3 tries and 17 goals. THAT IS INSANE.

Matt Sing wasn't even nominated for a wing spot.
Who would you choose over Wesser, Warrior? Mick Leary, Kevin Dann and Mark Levy were the other nominees.
Without doubt Steve Carter would be the unluckiest player to miss out. Not a bad 18th man!
Doogs submitted on Thursday 5 Oct 2006 21:04:53
I hear what your saying SND but a lot of players selected in this side are not one club players, two high profile players MG and Brandy also left the club so based on what you are saying does this mean they should also not be selected? Girdler and McIndoe did not always play for Penrith either. Completely agree with you on Wesser though, great player!
Anton submitted on Thursday 5 Oct 2006 19:18:09
Why would there be a better fullback then Rhys Wesser? He has the clubs highest try scoring record in a year and of all time. His 2003 season was one of the best of any fullback in history.
The real shock is Fittler. He left us and Carter was great for us and a one club man.
SND submitted on Thursday 5 Oct 2006 16:35:20
surely there would have to be a better fullback than rhys wesser
warrior submitted on Thursday 5 Oct 2006 14:01:14
Would have thought Matt Sing would be in the side in front of McIndoe.
