Injuries have forced two changes to the All Golds' line-up for the Centenary International against the Northern Union in Warrington on Saturday night (October 20).
Former Kiwi winger Francis Meli and 2002-06 test prop Jason Cayless both withdrew with injuries after playing for St Helens in its English Super League grand final loss to Leeds last weekend.
Their replacements are 19-year-old Sydney Roosters winger Shaun Kenny-Dowall and North Queensland hooker David Faiumu. Both are in the Kiwi squad for the four-test tour of Britain and France, Kenny-Dowall brought into the side last Sunday night for injured debutant Luke Covell after the Centenary Test defeat by Australia in Wellington.
With Kenny-Dowall and Faiumu added, the All Golds will now include nine players from the Kiwi touring team. Of those, fullback Sam Perrett, centre Chase Stanley and Kenny Dowall are yet to play for the Kiwis while interchange forwards Epalahame Lauaki and Greg Eastwood have played just once for the national side. Winger Tame Tupou has only three tests to his name.
That contrasts with the enormous depth of international experience provided by captain Ruben Wiki's world record 55 test appearances plus Stacey Jones (46), Nigel Vagana (38), David Kidwell (24), Clinton Toopi (19), Ali Lauitiiti (19), Louis Anderson (13) and Awen Guttenbeil (10). As well as that Australian prop Steve Price, reprising the role played by Dally Messenger in the original All Golds in 1907, has played 11 tests.
Coaching the side is Australian Wayne Bennett, whose time as a first-grade coach started Brisbane Souths and Brothers in Brisbane competition before having one year at Canberra in 1987 and has also included stints with Australia (1998 and 2004-05) plus 22 games and five series wins as Queensland's State of Origin coach.
The All Golds began assembling in London last Saturday, reaching their full number only this Tuesday once the Kiwi touring team arrived in England.
After visiting the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, the All Golds moved to their base in Leeds ahead of a match which will commemorate the birth of international rugby league 100 years ago.
While the All Golds will field a side featuring a blend of past, current and future Kiwis - plus their guest Australian - the Northern Union line-up is made up entirely of players seeking spots in the Great Britain side to play the first test against the Kiwis at Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield next Saturday (October 27).
Great Britain coach Tony Smith is also in charge of the Northern Union, a side captained by Adrian Morley and including just one player - Leeds standoff Danny McGuire - who was involved in the English Super League grand final.
The match will also act in part as a trial for the Kiwis with one of the New Zealand players to be chosen for the vacant 24th spot in the team for the tests against Great Britain and France.
One of the special features of the Centenary International will be the use of the points scoring system in place when the All Golds toured the United Kingdom in 1907. Tries will be worth three points while conversions, penalties and field goals will all be worth two points.

The front row is awesome Pricey and Ruben who we know will play out of their skins and Dave Faiumu who was one of the kiwis better players last sunday. But not sure about tommy at 5/8. Stace might just save the day though! GO KIWIS!! nzwarrior submitted on Saturday 20 Oct 2007 10:06:54
Leuluai at 5/8.... WTF is going on with the KIWIS. He aint an International halfback let alone a 5/8's arsehole. This could be one long tour, the only thing that might save us is Stacey Jones! Again! Anton submitted on Friday 19 Oct 2007 16:22:20
