Newtown were one of the eight founding clubs. They played in the NSWRL Sydney Premiership competition until the end of 1983, when financial difficulties led to their being dropped. They went on to play in the Sydney Metropolitan Cup and then launched themselves into the NSWRL Premier League competition. Grounds: Metters Sports Ground Erskineville, Erskineville Oval, Marrickville Oval, Henson Park, Orana Park Campbelltown; currently Lidcombe Oval. First Season: 1908 (founding member). Last Season: 1983. Nickname: The Blue Bags, then The Jets.
