Sun May 14, 2006 There just doesnt seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel for the New Zealand Warriors after they were beaten by a reserve grade strength St George-Illawarra last night 22-16. The Warriors got first points on the board when Steve Price strolled through some flimsy defense to open up the scoring. Trent Barrett replied moments later carving the Warriors defense to ribbons. The game was tied up at 12 a piece after Steve Nash took an eternity to give the Warriors a benefit of the doubt ruling which was plainly clear after the second view and Danny Wicks got an easy one back for the Dragons. If you were frustrated during the first half, then the second didnt get much better. Two questionable decisions opened up a lead the Dragons were never to surrender. Steve Price was penalised for high shot which would have been laughed at during an Aussie Rules match, while Gavin Badger will rue not going to the video ref to rule on Clint Greenshields second try. Despite the best efforts of Laurie Daley and Warren Smith to try and convince you otherwise, Greenshields for all money looked to have put his foot in touch. Aaron Gorrell added a penalty goal for the Dragons late in the match and (thankfully) the game was all over. The Dragons will be over the moon to (once again) beat the Warriors with a weakened team, while Ivan Cleary has some tough decisions to make on some of his players. Good luck. |
