Carney field goal wins it for Raiders in Golden Point
Sat May 27, 2006
Todd Carney booted a 87 minute 39 metre field goal to send Canberra to victory over the Cowboys in golden point.

The two teams were deadlocked at 14-all for 24 minutes after the Raiders led 12-8 at the break.

The Raiders opened up with a 6-0 lead in the 7th minute with Phil Graham racing 80 metres to score following a cowboys attacking turnover.

The Cowboys levelled the scores in somewhat fortunate fashion just four minutes later when a Thurston attacking kick on the last tackle rebounded into Gavin Coopers arm's the big forward charging through the defensive line to score.

A penalty goal inched the Cowboys 8-6 ahead after 20 minutes.

The Raiders responded to hit the front 12-8 following a chip and chase regather by Phil Graham on the edge of the field in the 24th minute, setting up a try under the posts for David Howell.

That lead was taken into the break and then further extended to 14-8 with a penalty goal in the 52nd minute.

Backing up a break made by Brenton Bowen, a Jonathan Thurston try and then sideline conversion sent the scores level in the 63rd minute.
