Eels in form, Johns breaks record Sun July 9, 2006 Daryl Halligan broke the point scoring record by scoring a try in the corner with the Bulldogs losing narrowly to Canberra, Jason Taylor passed Halligan with a conversion as Parramatta walloped North Queensland 62-0, however Andrew Johns passing the record will be best forgotten for the champion halfback.
Johns landed two goals to get the required two points to become the all-time leading point-scorer in Premiership history with 2,108 points but it was a night where everything else for Johns and Newcastle went terribly wrong with young winger Jarryd Hayne confirming his status as one of the star players of the future scoring four tries.
Parramatta led 20-6 with two tries in the final three minutes to John Morris and Luke O'Dwyer extending a 10-6 lead out to 20-6 and the match in the Eels keeping after Tim Smtih and Eric Grothe Jnr scored early tries with Adam Woolnough hitting back for the Knights when the score was 10-0.
The second half belonged to Hayne as he scored four of the Eels five tries after the break with Morris scoring one in between.
Riley Brown's try in the 71st minute allowed Johns to break the record where he wasn't keen after the match to accept the accolades for such a fine achievement shunning the presentation of the Game Ball.
