Crocker pleads guilty to dangerous throw charge Tue August 15, 2006 Source: www.melbournestorm.com.au
Melbourne Storm backrower Michael Crocker will miss the next two home and away games after pleading guilty to a dangerous throw charge the NRL judiciary handed down following the clash against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.
The incident, which occurred when Crocker tackled Broncos backrower Sam Thaiday in the 66th minute, means he will miss this Saturday night's game against the New Zealand Warriors at Olympic Park, and the Round 25 clash against the Raiders in Canberra.
The suspension, Crocker's second of the season for a dangerous throw, means he will have missed 11 of 23 games when he makes his return for the final game of the regular season against the Manly Sea Eagles at Olympic Park on Saturday, September 2nd.
Storm football operations manager Dean Lance said that although the club had thought about fighting the charge, the safer option was to accept the penalty and have Crocker back before the finals series begins.
"Once we received all of the video angles from the NRL, Michael (Crocker), Michael Maguire (assistant coach) and myself looked at the technical aspects of the tackle and thought it better to accept the two week suspension rather than fight the charge and risk Michael sitting out the remainder of the home and away season," said Lance.
"We believe the incident to be minor in nature, which was supported by the NRL judiciary's decision to charge Michael on the lowest possible grade.
"We feel Michael needs to play again before the finals series begins and for that reason alone we are not fighting the suspension.
"We are thankful to the NRL and all other parties for their assistance with the additional vision we required to make our decision, a decision we believe to be in the best interests of both Michael and the Storm."
