Source: www.northsydneybears.com.auThe North Sydney SG Ball side have again fought the hard fight without taking away the two points in a thrilling finish at Energy Australia Stadium on Saturday.
Coach Michael Pobjie praised his sides' defence of their line in the first half as the knights resorted to their kicking game to get over the line and score two tries. While Bears captain Liam Foran scored the only points in the half for his team converting a penalty goal.
In the second half a cleaner play the ball for both sides lead to fewer penalties and a more open game of footy with tenacious fullback Kimon Tellidis scoring first for the Bears off a well placed grubber kick from half Luke Cox. As the momentum for the Bears grew Norths hooker Mitch Williams and Luke Cox began to find space. But it was a timely individual try from Liam Foran that brought the Bears back in to contention.
With minutes on the clock and the score at 14-12 in favour of the Knights an apparent knock on by Newcastle was missed catching the Bears unawares and allowing the Knights to score out wide. The final score 18-12 to the Knights.
Best for the Bears were half Luke Cox, hooker Mitch Williams centre Autama Iese, Siosi Liumaunu and Tim McDonald.
The Bears Harold Matthews team rallied after a halftime rev up by Coach Kevin Nichols. Attaining their best share of possession to date the Bears forwards did the most damage to date headed by Kenneth Cheer, Jake Kellie and Justin Joudo. The platform laid allowed Tom Scrivener to score and Josh Nicholls to convert.
However the fight back was too late, Newcastle finishing in front 32-6.
Jake Kellie was players' player and attracted praise from both Coach Kevin Nicholls and General Manager Greg Florimo. Kevin Nicholls also claimed Josh Nicholls and Kenneth Cheer as his best. Looking to the next round Greg Florimo hoped the team would,
"take their second half performance into their next match against Manly."The Bears Juniors will play Manly at Leichhart Oval prier to the Premier League on Sunday 26th March from 11:00am.
