Source: QRLTHREE Norths players have gone on report after a torrid battle at the Piggabeen Complex, won 20-14 by the Tweed Heads Seagulls.
In one of the most gripping games so far this season, Devils Jeremy Smith, Dennis Scott and Colin Wilkie were all placed under scrutiny by referee Michael Wise for high tackles.
The match was the first game back from neck injury for 10-year NRL veteran Scott.
Straight after the match Tweed Heads coach Steve Murphy went in to bat for the opposition trio.
I didnt think there was a great deal in any of the incidents, Murphy said.
They shouldnt have much to worry about. It was a fairly high quality game and, yeah, some of the collisions were intense.
Murphys frame of mind was arguably influenced by the fact his side had just claimed its second big-name scalp in as many weeks, coming after a 54-16 hiding of the Young Guns.
Tweed survived a nervy half-hour to emerge victors, with the score locked at 16-14 from the 47th minute to just before fulltime.
Prop Eddie Harrison was superb, while winger Nat Barnes took his impressive tally to nine tries from his past five games.
More than anything though, the reason were are getting results is that 17 men are all fulfilling their role. Thats the pleasing thing for me, Murphy said.
We are starting to defend our errors a lot better. There was a time not long ago that if we turned over the ball, we would go away from what we were trying to do. Its not like that anymore.
Murphy admitted that the bye this coming weekend would be a threat to his sides momentum, however he said for the health of the squad it was important.
Impressive back-rower Matt Pow has been carrying niggling injuries for several weeks and centre Chris Enahoro (knee) is not due back for possibly a month.
Following the result, Norths has now dropped out of the Top Five to sixth while Tweed Heads has moved up to third.
Norths made a number of changes prior to kick-off, including Scott, Adam Blair, Steve Franciscus and Scott Anderson. Players to drop out of the side were Aaron Morgan, Anthony Boyd, Troy Hansen and Josh Tatupu.
