Mon May 8, 2006 Source: www.weststigers.com.auThe Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers slumped to their 4th consecutive loss, going down 28-22 to Manly at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday. The Tigers got into gear early when winger Taniela Tuiaki scored under the posts 3 minutes in after charging onto a ball 35m out, breaking through a tackle then outpacing the cover. Halfback Ben Reynolds converted to lead 6-0. Seven minutes later Manly scored a soft try to equalise at 6-6 before Tuiaki scored out wide after five eighth Dean Caldwell put in a neat grubber kick which Tuiaki regathered then stepped around the fullback to score for a 10-6 lead. With 17 minutes to go Reynolds scored out wide after a pickup off his toes gave him some room and throwing a quick dummy allowed him to slice through a gap close to the line and cross. His conversion gave the Tigers a 16-6 lead at half time. Manly came out firing after the break and scored 3 converted tries to storm ahead 24-16 with a little over 20 minutes to play. With seven minutes remaining fullback Shannon McDonnell scored out wide after a Manly error in their 10m zone gave the Tigers a scrum win and he was able to find a gap in the defence and muscle his way over the line. Reynolds converted to edge them closer at 24-22. Five minutes later Manly scored in the right hand corner using second phase play and good support to take advantage of an overlap. They couldn't convert and extended their lead to 28-22. Right on full time Reynolds put up a bomb that was spilt by Manly in the in-goal and dived on by the Tigers, only to have the disallowed for a knock-on. Taniela Tuiaki was named players' player.
