Source: www.wiganwarriors.comA disappointing result as Wigan went down to their eleventh Super League defeat of the season in what was Brian Noble's first home game in charge of the club.
The Warriors at one stage came within four points of the visitors but it was the Tigers who recorded the win and manage a league double over the cherry and whites.
Wigan welcomed back Mark Calderwood and Scott Logan after injury with Nathan McAvoy making his home debut following his loan signing.
It took Castleford just two minutes to open the scoring through full back Michael Platt, Manu with the pass as the visitors were awarded six more tackles close to the Wigan line. Brad Davis struck the extras to make it 0-6.
Wigan responded on 7 minutes, Danny Orr with a perfect cross field kick sending in Mark Calderwood for his first try for the club following his close season move from Leeds. Danny Tickle hit a superb conversion from out wide to level the scores at 6-6.
Castleford crossed for their second try on 19 minutes, some quick hands close to the line , Platt and Shenton both involved, Gray Viane the try scorer, Davis with the goal, 6-12.
On 28 minutes, the Warriors drew level, O'Loughlin sending Goulding away down the right before Calderwood was tackled. The ball passed in field and Mickey Higham eluded a couple of Tigers tackles to score under the posts. This time Pat Richards hit the conversion, 12-12.
Some poor tackling allowed Michael Platt to cross for his second try, surrounded by four defenders he some how was able to break free with just three minutes of the half remaining. This time the goal was missed but Castleford led 12-16. With a minute left of the half the visitors were in again , the veteran Brad Davis arcing round into a gap for his sides fourth try, Davis hit the goal 12-22 at the interval.
Wigan crucially scored first at the start of the second half, pressing near the Tigers line, O'Loughlin with a pass sending in Nathan McAvoy for his first try for the club. Richards hit two from two to make it 18-22.
On the next attack Castleford scored, a mistake giving the visitors possession, Handforth this time squeezing over, the conversion missed 18-26.
Wigan were denied a try by the video referee on the hour mark, Moran with the touch but Calderwood judged to have knocked on from a high kick rising in the air with Waine Pryce.
At the other end Castleford , Manu and Pryce combined for Manu to dive in for the Tigers sixth try on 67 minutes, the conversion missed again but at 18-30 the Warriors were facing a massive task to turn this one around.
It was a score they could never recover from although a Higham try and Richards goal with three minutes left at least gave a late hope. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and Wigan were left with a defeat and it leaves the side firmly rooted with just four points from 13 games.
