Sat June 24, 2006 Source: www.bradfordbulls.co.ukBradford crushed Huddersfield 42-16 at the Grattan Stadium, Odsal on Friday night. It was a memorable match for Paul Deacon who smashed The Bulls' all-time points-scoring record. The little scrum half converted all seven of Bradford's tries to pass Keith Mumby's previous mark of 1,834 points set back in 1993. In truth the hosts made hard work of proceedings up until the 52-minute mark, but a purple patch of three tries in nine minutes all but killed the game and Huddersfield folded in the closing stages. There were two tries apiece for Lesley Vainikolo, Ben Harris and Brett Ferres while Australian forward Brad Meyers also chipped in with one. After a turgid start to the game, Vainikolo finally broke the deadlock on 19 minutes when the ball was worked out wide to the big man who crashed over in the right corner. Huddersfield shot themselves in the foot soon after when Paul Smith lost the ball inside his own half and although they managed to keep out Vainikolo initially, they could not prevent Harris from bundling over. However, The Giants had the final say of the first half as Chris Nero took Paul Reilly's pass in his stride to touch down with Chris Thorman adding the extras to make the score 12-6 at the break. Thorman then slotted two penalties early in the second period to reduce the arrears to just two points and Bradford looked to have a fight on their hands. It seemed to wake the slumbering Bulls who finally burst into life with their three-try salvo. Firstly Ferres touched down a high kick from Iestyn Harris and the Vainikolo bulldozed over after a slick pass from Michael Withers. That fourth try enabled Deacon to pass his personal landmark and when he slotted over another kick following Meyers solo effort The Bulls had eased to a 30-10 lead. Although substitute Steve Snitch claimed a consolation try for Huddersfield, the hosts ensured they had the final say when Harris powered over from close range and Ferres clinched his two-try haul after some less than convincing Giants defending.
