Wigan Warriors recorded a sensational victory with a 20-18 success against the Leeds Rhinos at Headingley Carnegie on Friday evening.
After a week that had seen the Warriors deducted two points, 2,000 travelling Warriors fans cheered their side home with nothing short of a super human effort.
Wigan put some early pressure on the Rhinos line, a Dobson grubber kick on 4 minutes forcing a goal line drop out. Sixty seconds later and the Warriors were in for their first try, great work by Danny Orr splitting the Leeds defence to send in David Vaealiki for the try, Dobson missed a difficult conversion, 4-0 to Wigan.
Wigan could have been in a again on 8 minutes, Ashton pass to Richards just a shade early and the Aussie was tackled by the Leeds defenders.
On 20 minutes Wigan were denied a try by the video referee, Orr the provider again but Sean O'Loughlin unable to ground the ball under pressure from full back Jordan Tansey.
On 25 minutes Leeds were level, Ali Lauitiiti with the try, again Ashley Klein forced to go to the video referee. Wigan looked to attempt to intercept a pass out to the left and the Kiwi was able to arc round for the try, just managing to stay in touch. The conversion was missed, 4-4.
Almost straight after the re-start the Rhinos were in again, Wigan guilty of missed tackles as Ian Kirke was able to charge over, Sinfield hit the goal to make it 10-4.
Wigan looked to hit back almost immediately, Orr kicking forward as Tony Smith's side lost the ball 30 metres out, just an unfortunate bounce against Orr prevented him from scoring the Warrior's second try of the night on 31 minutes.
A Michael Dobson penalty on the stroke of half time made it 10-6 at half time.
On 47 minutes Leeds were in for try number three, quick hands down the left and Senior fed Ashley Gibson for the four points in the corner. Sinfield's goal was struck the wrong side of the posts, 14-6.
On 52 minutes, Wigan scored their second try of the night, great play and a well worked four points, Hansen to Vaealiki who stepped in and out of a tackle to send in Chris Ashton, Dobson hit the extras 14-12, game on.
The Warriors drew level on 57 minutes, a Dobson penalty; Peacock with a high tackle on Stuart Fielden, 14 all.
On 65 minutes Mark Calderwood against his former side scored a sensational try, picking the loose ball in his own 20-metre area to race away. He had Ashton on his shoulder who in turn found Calderwood back in support as two passes took Wigan the near full length of the field. Dobson hit the extras to give the Warriors a 14-20 advantage.
On 75 minutes, Ashley Gibson scored his second try, a Sinfield grubber kick grounded by the winger out wide. Sinfield's goal struck the post, 20-18 to Wigan. Leeds pressed late on but Wigan held firm for a sensational two points. What a night and what a performance by the men in cherry and white.
