Bulls hammer Tigers at the Grattan
Mon August 21, 2006
Source: www.bradfordbulls.co.uk

A rampant Bradford Bulls side ran in nine tries to beat relegation threatened Castleford Tigers 48-10 at the Grattan Stadium.

Ben Harris and Karl Pryce both bagged a brace against a Tigers team that barely showed their teeth.

As if the defeat was bad enough for coach Terry Matterson, he will now lose Jason Payne to suspension after the prop was sent off in the closing minutes.

The writing was on the wall for Cas when they failed to stop Lesley Vainikolo getting to the line to open the scoring after eight minutes.

Their was some brief resistance when Deon Bird was the first to reach a clever kick through from the returning Danny Brough.

However, two tries in the space of 10 minutes from Chris McKenna and Harris, which were both converted by Paul Deacon, gave the home side an 18-4 lead at the break.

They also found themselves with a man advantage for the start of the second half after Peter Lupton was sin-binned for persistent interference in the tackle.

His absence allowed the Bulls to cut loose, Harris completing his double inside 47 seconds of the re-start and then substitute Pryce getting his first of the night when he collected Iestyn Harris' long kick.

Adam Fletcher gifted Brett Ferres a try when he coughed up possession behind his own line and then some woefully weak tackling allowed Stanley Gene to get his name on the scoresheet.

Pryce's second came courtesy of an interception score and although Fletcher claimed a consolation try for Cas, a disappointing night got even worse when Payne was red carded.

Brad Meyers rounded off the scoring with Bradford's final try of the night, Deacon adding his sixth conversion while the Tigers licked their wounds ahead of a nerve-jangling end to the season.
