Fri April 20, 2007 Source: www.raiders.com.auThe CFMEU Canberra Raiders have found an unlikely ally so far in 2007, with the introduction of Monday night football creating success on and off the field for the Green Machine. The Raiders have a 2-0 record in the Monday night format so far this season, with the 48-18 win over Newcastle in round three, and the 37-28 win over the Roosters on Monday night, keeping them in the hunt this season. In the Raiders two Monday matches so far this year in the national capital, the Raiders have attracted home crowds averaging 14,500 people, which is up 3000 people on the last three seasons entire home game averages. On top of this the Raiders have gained some valuable exposure through the coverage on Foxsports, with over 1.2million people tuning in at some stage during the Raiders two Monday night matches. Raider's general manager Don Furner said Monday night football has been a great way to promote the Raiders early in the season, and the Raiders would look at requesting matches in the same timeslot next year. "With so many people coming to the matches at Canberra Stadium, and the huge number tuning in on Foxsports, it's great for the players, the sponsors and the Raiders brand," Furner said. "Looking to request Monday night's early next season is something we will definitely have a think about next year, but we probably steer clear of them in the colder months."Furner said Monday night football had created a great interest around Canberra and the rugby league community for the Raiders, and he hoped this spirit would carry on to the Raiders other home matches. "Hopefully the people that have been coming out to watch Monday night footy will come back for our other home games," Furner said. "The people of Canberra have proven over the past few weeks that the Raiders are still their team, and hopefully their support can encourage others to come along and watch us play."News sent by: www.raiders.com.auTue April 17, 2007 Source: www.raiders.com.auThe CFMEU Canberra Raiders have bounced back to defeat the Sydney Roosters 37-28 in an entertaining contest at Canberra Stadium tonight. Adrian Purtell and Todd Carney both grabbed a pair of tries for the Raiders, in front of a bumper home crowd of 15,862. The Raiders held a 26-12 halftime lead and extended the margin to 20 immediately after the break, before the Roosters surged to within 4 points, setting up a grandstand finish. It was the Raiders who lifted in the dying stages however, with Colin Best crossing out wide and captain Alan Tongue capping a fine performance with a neat field goal on the fulltime siren.
