Sat April 14, 2007 Source: www.titans.com.auJetstar Gold Coast Titans Prop Michael Henderson's season is over as a result of a leg injury he sustained in last night's triumph over the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium. One of the better performers in last night's clash Henderson will undergo surgery this afternoon to insert a tibial nail after suffering a spiral fracture to the right tibia four minutes from full time. The injury happened when Henderson fell awkwardly in a tackle while running the ball out of his own half. Henderson vowed to return as quickly as possible, "This is devastating, but as hard as it is to take at the moment I am just going to focus on ensuring I recover well and return to training as soon as humanly possible. How long that takes is a little early to tell at the moment, we'll just have to wait and see how the surgery goes this afternoon and the rehab process when I am back on my feet."Coach John Cartwright who is also disappointed by the extent of Henderson's injury said, "Michael was just beginning to hit his straps and last night's performance was proof that he was starting to stamp himself. It is unfortunate for him and the club and we wish him a speedy recovery."One of the first to visit Henderson in the medical rooms at Suncorp Stadium was fellow Prop Luke Bailey who has been a mentor for the young front rower now and at their former club the Dragons. Bailey said, "It is devastating for Mick because he has done everything asked of him and more during the long pre-season and the first five rounds of the season.
"Tonight I think Michael proved himself as an outstanding young front rower and I wish him all the best and look forward to playing with him again in the not too distant future."Henderson will remain in hospital for 2-3 days and all going well is expected to begin rehab in 8 weeks. News sent by: www.titans.com.auSat April 14, 2007 The Gold Coast Titans have produced their most important win since returning to the big time upsetting defending premiers Brisbane 28-16 in front of 47,686 fans at Suncorp Stadium. Despite the match being played at Suncorp Stadium, it was a Titans home match as club officials moved the match up the road to Brisbane to take advantage of the larger stadium and better facilities. It more than paid a treat with the Gold Coast producing one of the big upsets of the season to date. It took until the 27th minute for the first points to be registered with Mark Minichiello crossing over. Brett Delaney scored three minutes later and the Titans all the sudden raced out to a 12-0 lead. Karmichael Hunt got the Broncos back into the match with a try in the 33rd minute. Gold Coast led 12-6 at half-time and they continued their domination on the match with Delaney scoring his second try 13 minutes into the second half and Michael Henderson crossed five minutes later following a perfectly executed move from halves Scott Prince and Preston Campbell. With the Titans up 22-6 the Broncos had to score next and they did through Justin Hodges in the 73rd minute to bring the margin back to 10 points. Anthony Laffranchi crashed over from dummy half with five minutes remaining to seal an impressive victory. Brisbane scored a late try through Brent Tate following a neat grubber kick from Hunt to reduce the margin to less than 13 points. Titans coach John Cartwright after the match said, "It doesn't get much better than coming to the premier's home ground and beating them. You can't put a value on a win like that. What that win will do for us, I don't know."Broncos coach Wayne Bennett said, "We're in a bit of chaos now, how can we pick a side, we've got five or six players up for Test duty and we could be struggling for players come Friday night.
"We've got to back up within 48 hours and we're not in a position to think about who we leave out - I'm concerned about who we are going to get into the team."Brisbane play Newcastle next week at EnergyAustralia Stadium, which will be the first game played at the venue since the retirement of Rugby League legend Andrew Johns. Prince had an absolutely outstanding game for the Titans where he led the team superbly around the field. Prince said of the team's performance, "It's great to come here and get the two points. Our attack is starting to gel but there's a long way to go and we've got Manly next week so it is on again." |
