Exciting Manly fullback Brett Stewart continued his push for NSW State of Origin selection with two tries in the opening four minutes as the Sea Eagles defeated Gold Coast 20-6.
The Sea Eagles were never in trouble after the early Stewart blitz as they continued their excellent start to the season remaining undefeated alongside the Melbourne Storm after six rounds of the Premiership.
Gold Coast just weren't in the contest from the outset as they appeared flat last week from the victory against Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium and Manly being the good side they are took advantage of the Titans being down on their game.
Manly captain Matt Orford made a welcome return from injury after being out of action since the Sea Eagles opening round victory against Canberra. Orford made his presence immediately felt when he perfected a neatly timed grubber kick into the ingoal area for Brett Stewart to be right on the spot.
Brett Stewart's second try came when he was on the end of the 60m movement that was started by his older brother Glenn Stewart, who signed a three-year with the Sea Eagles during the last week and included Steve Bell and Chris Hicks in the play. The Brookvale specialist was on the end of the move and continues to enhance his claims for a State of Origin berth with Anthony Minichiello unfortunately only a shadow of his 2003-05 form.
Gold Coast tried to get back into the match, but the Manly defence again proved too good as the Titans had no answer or response to find points.
Orford was the mastermind of Manly's 3rd try when he spotted Gold Coast fullback Preston Campbell defending in the line and kicked ahead from inside his own half where Hicks had too much space for the Titans chasers to score. Jamie Lyon landed his 3rd conversion of the first half for the Sea Eagles to lead 18-0, which they carried into the half-time break.
Mat Rogers inspired the Titans early in the second half when he created a try for Matt Hilder with Campbell adding the extras.
Again Manly's defence was too good and Lyon sealed proceedings in the 73rd minute with a penalty goal.
The Sea Eagles have now only conceded eight tries in six matches and they continue their rise as a genuine premiership contender this season. Defence wins matches and Manly is proving this theory in abundance.

Source: www.titans.com.auJetstar Gold Coast Titans forward Luke Swain will plead guilty to a lesser charge of a Grade 1 striking offence when he appears before the NRL judiciary in Sydney tomorrow night.
Charged with a grade 2 striking offence and placed on report during Friday nights win over the Brisbane Broncos, Swain and his defence team will argue the severity of the charge and look to have it down graded.
Jetstar Gold Coast Titans Managing Director Michael Searle and Barrister Geoff Bellew will attend the hearing with Swain.
It's hoped the work horse forward who's been in impressive form during the first five rounds of the season will be available for the Clubs next home game against Parramatta after sitting out this weekends clash against the undefeated Manly Sea Eagles.
The hearing will take place at 6.00pm Wednesday 18th April.
