A try on debut for Ben Farrar was just one of the many highlights in the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys 30-26 victory over the previously undefeated Manly Sea-Eagles at Dairy Farmers stadium.
With 10 tries scored in the match, the 18 682 strong crowd were thoroughly entertained as the Cowboys, coming off a disappointing loss to South's last Monday night dominated from the opening whistle.
Leading 14-0 at the half time break, the Cowboys try line was not crossed until Manly's Australian centre Jamie Lyons crossed in the 48th minute.
Despite the close score, the Cowboys were always in the lead and when veteran No 6 Jason Smith scored from a five metre scrum in the 57th minute, bringing up a 30-10 lead, it appeared a commanding victory was possible.
The Sea Eagles bounced back with a vengeance however in the final 10 minutes, scoring three tries, the last with just 17 seconds to go.
Matt Bowen played arguably his best match for the season, scoring 2 tries, one from the scrum base where he outpaced the opposition from a standing start, and displaying superb cover defence.
Farrar's try just after half time bought the house down while Brenton Bowen also scored off his cousin's clever passing. The victory once again belonged to the Cowboys forward pack who dominated their opposition and forced mistakes, with some bone crunching tackles while the Sea-Eagles were always menacing but were unable to gain any momentum until the final 10 minutes of the match.
North Queensland Toyota Cowboys 30 (Matt Bowen 2, Brenton Bowen, Jason Smith, Ben Farrar tries, Jonathon Thurston 5 goals) d Many Sea-Eagles 26 ( Chris Hicks 2, Jamie Lyon, Chris Halden, Mark Bryant tries, Jamie Lyon 3 goals).
