Tue May 22, 2007 Source: www.newcastleknights.com.auClint Newton will become the latest Knight to notch up 100 appearances in the blue and red when Newcastle faces the Broncos this Sunday. The Country representative will celebrate the milestone at Suncorp Stadium when the Knights return from the bye to resume their 20th Crusade. "It's exciting but pretty emotional for me considering I didn't really think I'd play one first grade game let alone 100," Newton said. "To think back on the memories and the blokes I've played footy with, it's been an honour and a pleasure to wear the red and blue, play for my home town and chalk up a hundred games."A Valentine Elebana junior, Newton debuted against the Warriors in Round 7, 2001, becoming a regular face in the Knights first grade line up. The former Prime Ministers XIII player returned to the representative arena this year, selected for Country after withdrawing in 2006 due to injury. In other club news, Coach Brian Smith announced his Round 11 line up today, naming a 19-man squad. Back rower, Mark Taufua has retained his starting position while Stephen Gordon replaces injured winger, Todd Polglase, who suffered a hamstring injury at training last week. Knights Origin players, Danny Buderus, Steve Simpson, Jarrod Mullen and Kurt Gidley will join the Newcastle camp on Thursday to prepare for this weekend's clash against the Broncos.
