Source: www.raiders.com.auThe CFMEU Canberra Raiders have gone down 22-16 to the Wests Tigers in a tense round 16 NRL clash at Canberra Stadium today.
The Tigers returned to the winners circle on the back of some outstanding goal-line defence, as the Raiders peppered their line for an extended period early in the match but were denied almost every time.
Raiders half Todd Carney signalled his return to the NRL almost immediately, carving a hole through the Tigers defensive line and sending David Milne away to score after just 2 minutes of play. Despite a continued weight of possession in the Tigers half of the field, the Raiders still found themselves trailing 10-4 at the halftime break.
An early try in the second half saw the Tigers jump away to a 16-4 lead, before the Raiders rallied to level the scores through a second try to Milne and another to rampaging front-rower Dane Tilse.
A quick reply from the Tigers through a second Paul Whatuira try and a late penalty goal to Robbie Farah was enough to see the Tigers home, ending their 5-match losing streak to the Raiders.
The Raiders were hampered by the loss of both Michael Weyman (leg) and captain Alan Tongue (knee) during the match.
The Raiders' third loss in as many weeks now sees the side at the back of a big pack of teams fighting it out for a finals spot.
Wests Tigers 22 (Paul Whatuira 2, John Morris, Chris Lawrence tries; Robbie Farah 3 goals) d. CFMEU Canberra Raiders 16 (David Milne 2, Dane Tilse tries; Todd Carney 2 goals) at Canberra Stadium.

Source: www.raiders.com.auTodd Carney has been recalled to the CFMEU Canberra Raiders top side this weekend, with the Green Machine naming Carney at halfback for their match against the Wests Tigers at Canberra Stadium.
Carney replaces Michael Dobson at halfback, with Dobson returning to Premier League, while Nigel Plum also returns to the side in the second row due to Neville Costigan's re-selection in the Queensland State of Origin side.
Other changes for the Raiders include the return of Michael Weyman from suspension, who takes his position on the Raiders bench in replace of Ben Jones who has been named as 19th man, while Ryan Hinchcliffe has also been added to the bench to cover for Alan Tongue, who is recovering from surgery to repair a broken nose.
Tongue was given the day off from training today as was Carney, with Carney still recovering from a concussion suffered in Saturday afternoons Premier League loss to the Newcastle Knights at Canberra Stadium.
