Mon August 6, 2007 Source: www.bulldogs.com.auThe inaugural Bandaged Bear Cup between the Bulldogs and the Parramatta Eels was a resounding success as fans from both teams cheered loudly for the staff and volunteers of the Children's Hospital at Westmead as they made their way round Telstra Stadium. The Hospitals' staff and volunteers were given tickets for themselves and friends and family for the game in honour of the great work and commitment they show the kids they care for. Gilly Paxton from the Children's Hospital at Westmead commented, "It really was a fabulous evening and we are so indebted to so many for making it happen.
"I have been swamped this morning with Hospital staff saying thank you. I think the nicest story was the lady who had taken an 80 year old couple who had been supporting the Bulldogs since the 1930s. He hasn't been out since a stroke earlier in the year but went to the match with his vintage 1930s beanie and had a ball!
"The place is littered with stories like that and everybody feels that extra boost from it."Peter Winchester, Chairman of Canterbury League Club, passed on the Club's thanks to the staff of the Children's Hospital at Westmead by presenting Hospital CEO Tony Penna with a donation of $10,000. Bulldogs captain Andrew Ryan said, "Although the result of the game may not have been what we wanted, I was very pleased to be part of a game that highlighted the dedication that the staff and volunteers of the Children's Hospital have to the sick and injured kids of NSW."News source: www.bulldogs.com.auMon August 6, 2007 Source: www.bulldogs.com.auBulldogs forward Brad Morrin has been charged with contrary conduct for a biting incident arising out of the game against the Eels last Friday. The matter has been referred directly to the judiciary which will hear Morrin's case on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, Bulldogs centre Willie Tonga will be on the sidelines for up to four weeks with a rib injury sustained in the Bulldogs loss to the Eels last Friday night. The Bulldogs are expecting Luke Patten (shoulder), Mark O'Meley (hamstring), Matt Utai (knee) and Lee Te Maari (knee) to be available for round 22 next Sunday against Canberra. In other news, NSW Police have informed the Bulldogs Club of an incident last night involving Damon Alley Tovio, a part-time player with the Club. Police alleged that Alley Tovio was involved in a fight with security personnel at the Rydges Hotel in Parramatta before stealing a car and driving away from the hotel. The car was later found at Maroubra police station with the keys in the ignition. Bulldogs CEO Malcolm Noad said, "We have urged Damon to report to police. He has been advised that he is suspended from training and playing with the Club until further notice.
"As the matter is now being investigated by police we will not be making any further comment until investigations have run their course."News source: www.bulldogs.com.au |
