Joel Clinton has been dropped from Penrith's side to play Newcastle this weekend as a disciplinary measure.
"He has been suspended because he broke a club policy," General Manager Rugby League Michael Leary said today.
Leary said the incident that caused the suspension followed the fining of Clinton and three others after they admitted to drinking alcohol on their day off during the week.
"We have very firm rules about drinking in the period leading up to a match, even on a day off. They all know the rules and we won't tolerate breaches."
Leary said he would not be going into any further details - "It's a matter between players and club.
"The only reason Joel has been named is because he has been dropped from the Newcastle game and we don't intend to fabricate reasons for his suspension."
No decision has yet been taken on who will replace Clinton in the 1st Grade side.
