Source: www.leedsrugby.comLeeds Rhinos bounced back to winning ways with victory over Wakefield at Belle Vue. The Rhinos began the game in outstanding fashion, running in four tries to go in 24-6 up at the interval. He second half though was a different tale, with Leeds having to hold on as the Wildcats staged a fantastic comeback, scoring three tries in just over ten minutes. It was Ryan Bailey's try though that proved to be the crucial difference and ensured Leeds kept their 100% record against Wakefield at Belle Vue in Super League.
It took just six minutes for Leeds to get off the mark after good play from Matt Diskin, Danny McGuire and Jordan Tansey sent Scott Donald in at the left corner. Kevin Sinfield was unable to convert the try but seven minutes later Leeds had extended their lead through the returning Keith Senior, who again went in at the corner and this time Sinfield made no mistake with the conversion. Moments later tempers began to fray when Paul March caught Rob Burrow late and it was not long before referee Ashley Klein sent Senior and Olivier Elima to the sin bin for fighting and they were quickly followed by Paul March for a professional foul. Leeds took advantage and stand in full back Jordan Tansey, who had come in for the injured Brent Webb, scored for the Rhinos before Danny McGuire crossed over and put Leeds 24-0 up.
Just before half time Jeffries gave the homeside a life line with late try and Jamie Rooney converted. In the second half Wakefield showed more of the form that had seen them rise to second place in the Super League table and within eight minutes of the restart the Wildcats had scored two more tries to cut Leeds' lead to eight points. It was Jeffries once again who provided the inspiration setting up former Leeds player Peter Fox for two tries, but Rooney was only able to convert Fox's second.
Wakefield then began to pile the pressure on Leeds and this soon paid off when Atkins touched down a grubber kick from Brett Ferres in the 54th minute. Rooney again was unable to land the conversion but it was enough to make for a nervous ending as Leeds tries desperately to keep hold of their lead. Ryan Bailey helped ease the strain with his second try of the season, but Wakefield still continued to pressure Leeds and Atkins claimed his second try of the game.Their fairytale comeback though was not to be and Rob Burrow scored a penalty for Leeds before Sinfield added another two-pointer in the last minute to give Leeds the 32-26 win.

Smith pleased with determined performanceFri March 16, 2007
Source: www.leedsrugby.comIn this weeks edition of Headingley Carnegie Insight, Leeds coach Tony Smith looks ahead to the Rhinos game at Wakefield Wildcats on Friday, kick off 8pm.
How have the team responded to last week's result?
The team have trained exceptionally well this week and have had a great response to last week's disappointing result. They have put a lot of effort into preparing and they are all looking forward to the challenge this week and proving that they can play the way they know they can and go out there and play with confidence.
Are you surprised with Wakefield's position this season?
No they are a good young team who are playing with a lot of confidence. As I have said before the competition is getting stronger and Wakefield have stepped up and earned some excellent results already this season. When you play with that kind of enthusiasm and confidence it puts you in the mix and Wakefield are testament to that. I am sure they will provide a tough challenge for us in this Yorkshire derby.
SQUADTony Smith has named the same 18 man squad ahead of the Rhinos next clash against Wakefield Wildcats. Keith Senior comes into the squad who were defeated against Hull KR in last week's Super League game. This will be the first meeting between the sides in a competitive fixture since August last year when the Rhinos clinched a 14-12 win at Belle Vue with tries from Matt Diskin and Jordan Tansey.
The 18 man squad in full is:
1 Brent Webb
2 Scott Donald
3 Clinton Toopi
4 Keith Senior
5 Lee Smith
6 Danny McGuire
7 Rob Burrow
8 Kylie Leuluai
9 Matt Diskin
10 Jamie Peacock
11 Jamie Jones-Buchanan
12 Gareth Ellis
13 Kevin Sinfield (c)
14 Ali Lauitiiti
15 Jamie Thackray
16 Ryan Bailey
20 Ashley Gibson
23 Jordan Tansey
Meanwhile, the Rhinos have come out on top in the first battle against Wakefield Wildcats this week, thanks to former Leeds player Barrie McDermott.
McDermott and Wildcats star David March teamed up on Thursday to raise money for Comic Relief, ahead of Friday's Super League clash at Belle Vue between the two Yorkshire sides. The duo went head to head at Headingley Carnegie Stadium to see who could manage to devour the most Yorkshire Puddings in five minutes.
Many supporters, including Ronnie Rhino and Daddy Cool came down to cheer on the two as they set about the mammoth task and it was the former Great Britain and Rhinos prop McDermott who proved that he had the greater stomach for the challenge, managing 33 puddings to March's 20.
Commenting after the feat McDermott said,
"Comic Relief is a fantastic charity that supports many worthy causes and I am happy to do my part to help raise money for them. I was also pleased to combine two of my favourite things in this challenge - fundraising and eating! Hopefully this victory will be the first for the Rhinos this week."News sent by:
