Huddersfield complete successful Easter weekend
Tue April 10, 2007

Huddersfield Giants completed a successful Easter weekend with a well deserved victory over injury-hit Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones stadium.

The Giants followed up their 50-point Good Friday mauling of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats with their first away victory of the season as they look to climb off the foot of the engage Super League table.

It was the boot of stand-off Chris Thorman that proved vital as he landed seven goals from seven attempts as both sides scored three tries.

The Giants made a superb start and were 8-0 up in as many minutes as Australian hooker Brad Drew sold an outrageous dummy to the Wolves defence to dart over and Thorman converted to add to an earlier penalty.

The Wolves responded when the Giants lost possession deep inside their own half.

The home side seized on the loose ball and Paul Rauhihi and Lee Briers combined to send Henry Fa'afili over, Briers converting.

A further Thorman penalty edged the Giants 10-6 ahead before a rampaging 20-metre charge by Eorl Crabtree gave the visitors their second try with Thorman again converting.

A further Briers goal kept Warrington in striking distance but the Giants increased their lead seven minutes before half-time.

The influential Drew's long pass split the Warrington defence and Stephen Wild sent Martin Aspinwall over.

Thorman's fifth goal of the half gave the Giants a commanding 22-8 half time advantage.

The Wolves started the second half with all guns blazing as they looked to find a way back into the game.

Great Britain centre Martin Gleeson powered his way to the line after a crisp passing movement four minutes after the restart, which Briers converted from the touchline.

A Thorman penalty kept the Giants ticking along before Fa'afili claimed his second try of the afternoon when he collected a Briers kick to score and reduce the deficit to just six points at 24-18.

But the trusty boot of Thorman edged the Giants eight points clear with his seventh success of the afternoon and the visitors withstood a late home rally to hold on for victory.

The Wolves suffered further injury concerns as Chris Bridge and Vinnie Anderson were both forced from the action with leg injuries.
