Australia's domination on the International stage has got even wider following another easy and predictable victory against New Zealand at Suncorp Stadium last night.
The Australian's won 30-6 in front of a disappointing crowd of 35,241 where the ARL and NRL simply refused to promote the event and as a result the public barely knew there was an International being played.
Unfortunately for the Kiwis their two high profile players Benji Marshall and Sonny Bill Williams didn't have the happiest of matches. Marshall's return to form for the Wests Tigers last week was very short lived as he went back to the struggling Marshall of the opening four weeks where the Tigers lost all four of those matches. Williams had one of his most disappointing performances where he was caught too wide in attack and when he received the ball dropped it more times than not. With Marshall and Williams failing to deliver to their hype, the Kiwis never stood a chance.
One positive for the Kiwis was the performance of fullback Krisnan Inu and despite coming from the Parramatta Premier League side, his value increased ten-fold and showed that he's a custodian of the future and any NRL club weak in the No.1 position will be bound to snap him up long-term. Inu handled plenty of dangerous Australian kicks and his defence at the back was very sound, which on one occasion he saved a certain Willie Mason try.
On the other hand, the loss of Stacey Jones was more evident than ever with Ben Roberts unable to handle the step up to International Football. Roberts has been given an extended run in the Bulldogs first grade side due to Brent Sherwin coming back from injury, but in recent weeks the calls have been growing louder for Sherwin to be reinstated to the Bulldogs line up if they are to have any hope to make the Finals this year. Rumours are rampant that Sherwin's recall to the top grade could be sooner rather than later leaving Roberts going from Test halfback to Premier League in a quick rise and fall.
Australia was too good and too methodical as the cruised to an easy victory and the two tries in the final four minutes showcased the difference between the two nations.
It was a tight opening as both sides dropped the ball when on the attack. The first try came in the 19th minute when Johnathan Thurston opted for the power play on the last tackle and delivered a nice short ball for Nathan Hindmarsh to crash over for the try. Thurston converted for Australia to lead 6-0.
Mason was denied a try in the next set of six following the Hindmarsh try and the Kiwis did remarkably well to hold out the Australian's until the half-time break. Thurston had a chance on the stroke of half-time to add a penalty goal, but his attempt hit the posts.
New Zealand should have scored first in the second half only for Jake Webster to do a 'Neville Glover' and drop the ball with the line wide open. The Kiwis however were given a penalty only for Williams to drop the ball. The Australian's worked their way up field and made the Kiwis pay when Roberts dropped the bomb for Matt King to pounce on and score. Thurston landed his second conversion for Australia to lead 12-0.
Brent Tate extended Australia's lead six minutes later when he was on the end of some fine play from Darren Lockyer and Justin Hodges after the previous tackle Thurston came close to scoring. Thurston landed a great goal from the sideline to confirm his status as one of the great goal kickers.
The Kiwis to their credit never gave up and was rewarded in the 68th minute with a try to winger Manu Vatuvei with Benji Marshall adding the extras.
Australia's scoring wasn't finished with Karmichael Hunt capping off an outstanding performance with a 76th minute try and Australia wrapped up proceedings in the final play of the match where Tate made a break down the right wing and kicked in field with Lockyer scoring the try. Australia's tradition of scoring last second tries from anywhere on the field is now becoming more certain than paying taxes, but on this occasion it did reflect the difference between the two sides.
New Zealand has the talent to be competitive; they just can't put it together on a consistent basis. Even though the Tri Nations Final last year went into Golden Point there was only going to be one winner and the Kiwis Tri Nations victory in 2005 is looking more and more likely that it was just a one-off victory amongst an era of complete Australian dominance and ownership of the International game.

Book tickets now.
Speaking at yesterday's launch of the 2008 World Cup, where the final was confirmed for Suncorp Stadium, Stuart anticipated a testing encounter for his reigning Gillette Tri Nation outfit.
"New Zealand I think is a team with a lot of flair. They're a better attacking team than they were in the 2006 Tri Series," he said.
"Sonny-Bill Williams and Benji Marshall are playing together for the first time in a while and that's something we've had to think about.
"The stage has been set. I really think this Test and the one at the end of the year are appetisers for the World Cup."Tonight's match will be of special significance for hometown hero Darren Lockyer, who will equal Reg Gasnier's mark of 36 Tests for Australia.
Lockyer will also captain his country for the 20th time, closing on Clive Churchill's all-time record of 24 times skippering his country.
