Rhinos claw their back to winning ways defeating Hull KR
Tue May 29, 2007
Source: www.superleague.co.uk

Leeds Rhinos clawed their way back on to the winning track with victory against Hull KR at a cold and wet Craven Park.

Leeds have never lost three engage Super League games in a row and, after defeats at the hands of Hull FC and Wigan Warriors in successive matches, they avoided that here.

Even after forcing the Rhinos into four drop outs from under their own posts, it took Rovers 12 minutes to take the lead against engage Super League's joint leaders.

And when the score came it was from a Paul Cooke penalty after Danny McGuire obstructed Ben Cockayne as he charged down the middle.

Leeds did not look to be on top form but a series of raids forced Rovers onto the defensive and the visitors took a fortunate lead on 24 minutes.

Rob Burrow's kick into space was deflected by a Rovers foot into the path of McGuire who touched down. Kevin Sinfield added the conversion.

A high tackle by Jamie Jones-Buchanan on Ben Fisher after 29 minutes allowed Cooke to land his second penalty and close the Rhinos' lead to two points.

A sudden dart by Cooke saw him held up over the line and when the ball was moved swiftly to the right Luke Dyer was forced into touch by the flag.

Although Leeds pressed hard they were unable to extend their lead and ended the half 6-4 ahead.

Jordan Tansey put the pressure back on Rovers after the restart with a raking 40-20 and from the play which followed the ball was moved left and Clinton Toopi touched down, Sinfield again converting.

Leeds added to Rovers woes in the 66th minute when Jordan Tansey was put through by Brent Webb. Sinfield again added the extra points.

Rovers kept on fighting urged on by the 7731 crowd and, on 69 minutes, James Webster sent in Jason Netherton for a try with Cooke converting but the Rhinos hung on for the win.

Headingley Insight: Leeds v Hull KR
Sat May 26, 2007
Source: www.leedsrugby.com

In this weeks edition of Headingley Carnegie Insight, Leeds coach Tony Smith looks ahead to this Sunday's trip to Hull KR.

WILL THE LAST MEETING WITH HULL KR HAVE ANY BEARING ON SUNDAY'S GAME?
We all certainly remember it and we remember what they did to us but it won't play a part in how we prepare for the game. Since that game, they have recruited Paul Cooke and come into the game on the back of big wins over their neighbours and at Wigan last week. We know we need to be a lot better in a lot of departments from our last visit to Craven Park and we are looking forward to the challenge of asking questions of them this time in a number of areas.

HOW HIGHLY DO YOU RATE HULL KR?
They are a well coached, well organised side who are performing extremely well in their first season in Super League. I have not been surprised by their results this season. They came into the competition full of confidence with a winning habit and they have managed keep that momentum going this season with some big performances. It will be a tough game for us but we are looking forward to the challenge. They have got some very good players with a big set of forwards and dangerous half backs in James Webster and Paul Cooke and of course the threat of Stanley Gene when he is involved. We know we are in for a tough afternoon.

HOW HAVE PREPARATIONS GONE THIS WEEK?
We have trained well this week and everybody is in good shape going into the game. We were forced into doing a lot of defending last week because of errors so we know we can perform in that area but we can not afford to give Hull KR that amount of ball this Sunday. We will confirm our final 18 man squad on Saturday with Matt Diskin still a doubt to be involved on Sunday because of his groin injury.
