Mon April 7, 2008 Source: www.warriors.co.nzNew Zealand teams have made it three out of three for the first time in the three Australasian competitions they're involved in. As well as the sides the Vodafone Warriors are running in the National Rugby League premiership and the under-20 National Youth Competition, the Auckland Rugby League has the Auckland Vulcans in the revamped New South Wales Cup. And today all three teams won in the same round for the first time. The Vodafone Junior Warriors started the roll by toppling Newcastle 30-18 in the early game at Mt Smart Stadium, their second win on end after accounting for Manly 22-14 on Monday night. The Vodafone Warriors followed it up with their 26-20 success against the Knights as they also registered their second win of the season. The victory represented a 52-point turnaround in just six days as they rebounded from a 46-point defeat on Monday night to triumph by six points today. And the Vulcans, including some Vodafone Warriors players, completed the trifecta as they beat the previous unbeaten Newtown Jets 23-22 in a thriller at Henson Park in Sydney. Newtown, the Sydney Roosters' reserve grade outlet, included former Kiwi Iosia Soliola in its line-up and jumped to a 22-12 lead in the second half before the Vulcans levelled up at 22-22 with 16 minutes to play. Seven minutes from time halfback Aaron Heremaia's field goal put the Vulcans into a lead they defended for their second successive win of the competition. Vodafone Warriors wingers Michael Crockett and Richmond product Malo Solomona were among the Vulcans' try scorers along with centre Aidan Kirk - who made his NRL debut against Melbourne last month - and former Vodafone Warriors, Parramatta and Melbourne forward Jeremiah Pai. Halfback Aaron Heremaia converted three tries and provided the match-winning field goal. Like the Vodafone Warriors and the Vodafone Junior Warriors, the Vulcans also have a two wins-two losses record after four rounds. News sent by: www.warriors.co.nz |
