Source: www.broncos.com.auWayne Bennett was far from happy with the WOW Brisbane Broncos 32-14 victory over the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville tonight.
The Broncos won 32-18 but after leading 26-0 at halftime the victory should have been much more comprehensive.
"We are not going well at the moment," said a clearly displeased Bennett, who also admitted he was contemplating changing the team for Friday's home match against Cronulla Sharks.
The Cowboys finally got on the scoreboard in the 50th minute when John Williams plucked a Anthony Watts chip out of the sky and planted it, with Watts converting from the sideline for 26-6.
The Cowboys then showed there will still some sparks left when Shane Tronc burrowed over in the 55th minute, Watts making it 26-12.
But Brisbane were next to score, Denan Kemp (pictured) producing a beautiful finish to get over out wide, bringing it to 30-12.
A penalty at the ruck gave Ennis an east two points in the 70th minute and a late Cowboys try to Sione Faumina finished the scoring.
Earlier, the Broncos got on the scoreboard in the first five minutes through weight of possession.
A backline move found an overlap and Sam Thaiday threw a long ball to Kaine Manihera.
Manihera had to do some work for his first NRL try though, picking up a half volley and then getting low to dive over and make it 4-0.
The Broncos went further ahead in the14th minute when cowboys Ty Williams failed to clean up a chip kick and Townsville Brothers junior Sam Thaiday was there to pounce and score an easy try.
Ennis converted and it was 10-0.
In the 28th minute the Broncos went out to a 16-0 lead.
Ennis grubbered through and with Cowboy Mark Henry fumbling at possession, Kemp only had to pick the ball up and plant it over the line.
Ennis again goaled.
After 32 minutes it went to 20-0 after a Peter Wallace intercept gave Joel Moon room to run a long way downfield.
He was eventually rounded up by the Cowboys, but on the next play quick hands gave Darius Boyd enough room to step his way over the line.
Almost immediately the Broncos were in again, Thaiday getting his second of the night after clever lead-up work by Ennis and Karmichael Hunt, giving the Broncos a 26-0 lead at oranges.
BRISBANE BRONCOS 32 (D Kemp 2, S Thaiday 2, K Manihera, D Boyd tries; M Ennis 4 goals) NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS 18 (J Williams, S Tronc, S Faumuina tries; A Watts 3 goals) at Dairy Farmers Stadium.
