Source: www.parraeels.com.auThe Pirtek Parramatta Eels have racked up their second 40 point tally against the Wests Tigers for 2008, defeating their fellow Finals contenders 40-12 in front of over 13-thousand fans at Parramatta Stadium.
The Eels were in command almost from the start of the match, leading by 22 points to nil after little more than half an hour.
Converted tries either side of the break saw the Tigers stage a mini fight back, however the Eels wasted no time regaining their composure with tries to Jarryd Hayne, Feleti Mateo, and Hayne again putting the result beyond doubt.
Hayne wasn't the only one to bag a double, with Taulima Tautai showing great strength close to the line to claim two of his own.
The win means the Eels move onto 24 competition points, equal with the Tigers, Newcastle and the Gold Coast with three rounds left to play.
The 13,065 fans that braved a cold and at times wet night wouldn't have to wait long for things to heat up, with Tautai forcing his way over just inside the right hand corner post for a four nil lead on six minutes.
Bone jarring defence soon laid on their second, Fuifui Moimoi and Joel Reddy jolting the ball from the arms of Chris Lawrence 45 metres out from the Tigers line.
From the next set Moimoi went over, the big prop steaming onto a Mateo pass to score the Eels second and put his team out to a 10-nil lead.
An Inu penalty would soon put the Eels out to a 12 point buffer while a try to Nathan Hindmarsh five minutes later would extend the lead even further.
The Hindmarsh try - which came off a pinpoint bomb from Brett Finch - was converted by Inu to make it 18-nil.
Despite at least one clear Tigers chance it would remain one way traffic for much of the opening 40, a beautiful flick pass from Hayne putting Tautai over for his second try six minutes out from the break.
However the Eels soon blotted their record, gifting Benji Marshall a try two minutes before the break after Tony Williams flung the ball into space on the last tackle.
Marshall made easy work of a 60 metre sprint to the line to keep the Tigers in it at 22-6.
The Tigers scored back to back four pointers after honours were shared to start the second half, Chris Heighington touching down off a sweetly placed kick from dummy half Robbie Farah.
A dropped ball from the kick off would haunt the Tigers with Jarryd Hayne forcing his way over on the next set of six, taking the score along to 28-12 in the Eels favour.
From there the Eels hit top gear, Mateo bursting through some brittle defence one off the ruck for his side's sixth try a quarter of an hour from full time, while Hayne made it 40 with his second ten minutes later.
The win adds to the tally the Eels racked up against their near neighbours in round fourteen, on that occasion the blue and gold ran out 44 points to 6 winners.
It also extends Parramatta's winning streak against the Wests Tigers to seven matches, with the Tigers last tasting victory in 2004.
The only concern for the Eels out of the match was a cork above the knee to Mateo, and a slight hamstring strain suffered by Reddy.
It's hoped both will be fit to play the Bulldogs for the Bandaged Bear Cup on Saturday night.
