Bustling Bears Crush Comets Mon March 24, 2008 Source: www.qrl.com.au
Burleigh has piled on 30-unaswered points in the second half to crush the Central Comets in their round two clash at Pizzey Park.
The Comets had entered Saturday night's match on the Gold Coast in high spirits following their big win over the Norths Devils in the opening round.
But the visiting side couldn't go with Burleigh in the second half. The rejuvenated Bears posted seven second half tries to secure a 40-10 victory and back-to-back wins.
Burleigh made a bright start to the match, with centre Adam Fielder pouncing on a clever grubber kick from Ben Black to open the scoring.
But the rest of the half was a tight affair, with the Bears unable to break the committed Comets.
Burleigh scored just before half-time to sneak into the break with a slender 10-6 lead.
"We probably let ourselves down a bit in the first half with our ball control," Bears coach Jim Lenihan said.
"It was pleasing (the second half). We had a bit more ball control and obviously the result speaks for itself."
Hooker Scott Smith, forward Martin Griese and winger Aseri Laing were the standouts for the Bears.
Griese finished with two tries, while Fielder also bagged a double in another impressive performance.
Burleigh will now be eyeing off a hat-trick of victories when it meets Tweed Heads in Saturday's local derby at Cudgen.
The Comets face a tough ask against an in-form Souths Logan team.
