Magpies Expose Flat Dolphins

Souths Logan has produced a superb 80 minute performance in front of their home fans to record a dominant 26-6 victory over fallen Wizard Cup giants Redcliffe.

The Magpies led 16-0 at half-time and it took 29 minutes into the second half before the Dolphins finally cracked the home team's committed defensive line.

In a remarkable turnaround from last weekend, a lacklustre Redcliffe outfit looked nothing like the side that rattled up 62 points against the Burleigh Bears.

Redcliffe made sloppy mistakes from the start which gifted the Magpies vital field position in the opening minutes.

Although the Magpies put on some great tries, it was their "desperate" defence that impressed coach Paul Bramley.

That desperation was on show in the final seconds of the match when the Magpies swooped on a grubber kick to again shut out the Dolphins.

"We were dirty for letting that (first) try in. We just wanted to make sure we didn't let ourselves down," a beaming Bramley said.

"That's a good scoreline."

Bramley said the Magpies had made it their mission to hit back strongly following the previous week's 22-12 loss to Mackay.

"We had a good week (at training). We were really disappointed with ourselves last week," Bramley said.

"We set standards and we let ourselves down so we had to bounce (back). That was our theme all week ? we had to bounce back and prove that we're fair dinkum this year.

"They (Redcliffe) may have been a bit flat after that win but I've got to say we were that good. They didn't look like scoring for a long part."

Redcliffe's only moment of joy came in the 69th minute when five-eighth Marty Turner sliced through to score under the posts.

Turner kicked the conversion and for a brief moment the Dolphins were finally full of running.

But the Dolphins were unable to crack the line again in the final 10 minutes. Key playmakers Shane Perry, Michael Roberts and Turner had little impact against a swarming Magpies line.

For the Magpies, speedy winger David Milne notched a double. Both of his tries came in the second half.

Milne crossed for his first in the 50th minute when he capitalised on a clean break from big forward Ben Jones.

When Milne scorched down the left side to score a 50m special in the 65th minute, the Magpies led 26-0 and the game was well and truly over.
