Tweed's Moment Of Truth Sun June 15, 2008 Source: www.qrl.com.au
ForTweed Heads coach Mick Woods, the equation is simple.
Win the next two and anything - perhaps even a repeat of last year's success ? is possible.
"We've got Burleigh and Souths Logan away ... the season hinges on the next two weeks," Woods declared.
After a dismal start to the season, which included six-straight losses, resurgent Tweed is steadily making ground on the leading pack.
Their 30-18 victory over the Norths Devils on Saturday edged them a little closer to the top five but Woods knows a lot needs to fall their way.
"I don't think we have to win every game yet (to make the five), but we can't afford to have too many slip ups," the former premiership winning Norths and Tweed Heads Colts coach said.
Matches against coastal rival the Burleigh Bears are always fiercely contested affairs. But the latest installment promises to be a cracker.
To start with, the Tweed (11 points) will be desperate to bridge the gap on Burleigh (14).
But the real motivating factor for the Tweed may just be memories of the last encounter between the two sides.
Tweed players were left in a state of shock after the Bears scored two late tries to clinch a remarkable 28-26 victory at Ned Byrne Field in round three.
The Seagulls enter Sunday's clash at Pizzey Park on the back of a solid performance against the Norths Devils.
The Devils led 12-10 at half-time but couldn't hold out the fast finishing Seagulls.
"It was a tight game," Woods conceded.
"It was made tighter by the fact that there was a fair bit of inconsistency with the ball in hand from both sides.
"They (Norths) certainly competed for the whole game and never gave up."
Woods said the Seagulls finally got on top in the second half when they completed seven of eight sets.
The improved ball security resulted in three tries for the home team.
Young winger Luke Dumas continued his impressive form since progressing from the Colts ranks to the Wizard Cup.
He scored two tries to seal the win for the Seagulls, who were boosted by the return of Brad Davis and Selasi Berdie.
TWEED HEADS 30 (Luke Dumas 2, Matthew Cross, Matt King, Chris Enahoro, Matthew Pow tries; Brad Davis 3 goals) def NORTHS DEVILS 18 (Rodney Davies 2, Sean Yorston tries; Luke Samoa 3 goals) at Cudgen Oval.
