Wests Tigers beat Souths in Toyota Cup
Sun April 20, 2008
Source: www.weststigers.com.au

Wests Tigers recorded a 26-12 victory over South Sydney in round six of the Toyota Cup competition at the Sydney Cricket Ground today.

In a match played in heavy rain at times, Wests Tigers opened the scoring in the second minute of the Toyota Cup game against South Sydney with a try to centre Brett Lane. Winger Matt Parata converted for a 6-0 lead.

Souths hit back when some soft defence up the middle saw prop Eddy Pettybourne offload for the ball to be sent left for winger Michael Cummins to score in the corner.

Chris Sandow converted the try from the sideline to level it at 6-6 after 20 minutes.

Half-back Tim Moltzen has been solid in the first half, directing the attack well while his kicking game has been solid.

Wests Tigers stretched their lead to 10-6 in the 37th minute when Moltzen sent the ball right through five-eighth Robert Lui for centre and captain Blake Ayshford to step off his right and beat two defenders to score in the corner.

Parata missed the conversion attempt from the sideline.

South Sydney were denied a try in the corner right on half-time when winger Matt Ryan and full-back Joey Latham held up a Souths player as the siren sounded.

Wests Tigers led 10-6 at half-time.

2nd Half

Wests Tigers extended their lead to 14-6 three minutes after half-time when centre Brett Lane scored his second try in the corner.

South Sydney hit back with a try to full-back Luke Capwell under the posts. Sandow converted for a 14-12 scoreline.

A try in the corner to Lui, converted by full-back Joey Latham, gave Wests Tigers a 20-12 lead.

Wests Tigers secured victory when hooker Wayde Dunley burst through a couple of tackles to race 15 metres to score out wide.

Parata converted for a 26-12 lead.
