Chester Hill and Campbelltown share the spoils
Mon April 28, 2008
The Chester Hill Rhinos travelled out to the Campbelltown Showground to do battle with the newly formed Campbelltown Eagles Jim Beam Cup side.

Campbelltown got the better of the early exchanges with poor handling and discipline hurting the Rhinos and the Eagles took advantage to lead 4-0 when captain Troy Gibbs scored. Chester Hill was dealt a further blow when captain Wayne Beh was sent to the sin bin. Tyler Aitken went through some shoddy defence to put the home side up 10-0.

Chester Hill worked themselves back into the match as Campbelltown began to lose their way with five-eight John Da-Silva given 10 minutes in the bin. Fullback Dee Lalota got the Rhinos on the board not long before half-time with Ben Setephano adding a conversion and a penalty goal to put the visitors within two points.

In the second half Paul Neville scored to extend the Eagles lead to eight points. The conversion was wide of the mark as Chester Hill remained within a converted try. AJ Pesamino crashed over as the game entered into the final 20 minutes to lock up the scores.

Ali Kourouche edged Chester Hill in front when he landed a penalty goal from 35m out. A forward pass second tackle put Campbelltown on the attack ad they scored wide out to lead by two points. The Eagles in the next set of six landed a penalty goal through Stephen Harding to lead 20-16.

With the game entering the final minutes the Rhinos again tried another short kick off where it was plucked out of the air by John Berkley and passed to Aaron De Gois who ran 30m down the sideline to level up the scores. Kourouche narrowly missed the sideline conversion giving Campbelltown their first ever premiership point.

Centre Nick Kassis won Players Player for the Rhinos whilst front rowers James Koloamatamgi and AJ Pesamino went forward all day. Second-Row Ryan Owen was Players Player for the Eagles and other good performers included Troy Gibbs and Tyler Aitken.

The Rhinos are at home this Saturday night against the Sydney Bulls at the Terry Lamb Complex with kick-off at 5:30pm with the Chester Hill Hornets JRLFC playing in a competition match before the main game. Ground entry for the local derby is just $5.00. Gates open at 3:30pm.
