Source: www.titans.com.auJetstar Gold Coast Titans coach John Cartwright praised his side's steely defence after the club registered a gutsy 14-10 win over the North Queensland Cowboys at Dairy Farmers Stadium tonight.
Completing a successful fortnight on the road, the Titans repeated their spirited performance against the Storm in Melbourne last week to notch their fourth win from five matches this season.
Clinging onto slender lead during a tense final 40 minutes, the Titans were forced to defend their own line time and time again as the home side applied countless amounts of pressure before a parochial home crowd of 18,123.
However, the Titans answered every challenge with a steely toughness that Cartwright said simply couldn't 'get much better.''
"There was a lot to like about it,'' said coach John Cartwright of the performance.
"That was brilliant. They're a very dangerous side when they get in that sot of mood and they were desperate.
"I haven't had a look at the stats for the second half but most of the defence was down in our own 30-40m zone and they were getting domination of the ruck.
"They've very hard to hold out, I've seen them score 40 points in that mood. So to hold them to the tries that we did, they don't get much better.
"Again, like a lot of other coaches are saying at the moment, attacking wise things are just not quite happening on occasions but if you keep turning up in defence it keeps you in the game no matter how well or how bad you play.''
While the Titans have won plenty of plaudits for their defence over the past fortnight, Cartwright said it had been on display all season.
"It's been there all year, it's been there from day one,'' he said.
"I think it's improved from day one but we're growing with every time we get into that situation.
"It would be nice if we could get out of those situations but you take a hell of a lot out of that.
"To be able to do that and come away with a win, it's a good feeling.
Pint-sized dynamo Preston Campbell was again brilliant for the Titans, producing several key plays - headlined by a short goal-line drop-out and re-gather in the 50th minute when his side was under tremendous pressure in defence.
Cartwright struggled for superlatives to describe Campbell's continued bravery for the club.
"He's just that X-factor. He keeps surprising not only with the ball but his kicking game as well, he helped Princey out there, and also with his defence,'' he said.
"Big fellas just keep going at him on our line and he just puts his head on the line.
"It's hard to put into words how courageous that boy is.
"It's just body on the line, simple as that.
"He knows where he's limited and he knows what he's got to do to pull someone down like that."

Source: www.titans.com.auThe Jetstar Gold Coast Titans remain wary of a 'hurting' North Queensland Cowboys outfit heading into tomorrow night's Queensland derby at Dairy Farmers Stadium.
The Titans head into the clash on a high having won their last two matches, significantly without key playmaker Scott Prince, while the Cowboys have fallen to two straight losses.
Despite the contrasting form lines and the return of Prince for the Gold Coast tomorrow night, Titans coach John Cartwright said the Cowboys would be 'hurting' and eager to bounce back to form in front of their home fans.
Bookmakers appear to agree, with the Cowboys installed as favourites for tomorrow night's clash.
"They're a tough side and they're a big side and they've got a great record in Townsville,'' he said.
"It (Townsville) is a tough road trip at the best of times, they're going to be hurting and they're going to be ready for us.''
The Titans travelled to Townsville today, with livewire Preston Campbell a chance to become a late inclusion after making a recovery from a calf muscle injury sustained during last weekend's 18-6 win over Melbourne at Olympic Park.
Prop Michael Henderson has been ruled out with a groin injury.
Cartwright will settle on the final make-up of his 17-man squad tomorrow.
The Titans scored a 26-20 win in the corresponding clash in Townsville last year and have a 2-1 advantage over the Cowboys in the three matches between them to date.
