Tue June 16, 2009 Source: www.cowboys.com.auAfter seventy minutes of intense football, the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys fell to a strong-finishing St George Illawarra side who scored two late tries to claim a 32-18 victory in round 14. Trailing early after a strong start by the Dragons at WIN Stadium in Wollongong, the Cowboys struck back with a Ty Williams try in the 24th minute but still trailed 6-18 by half time. A resurgence after the break followed, with Luke O'Donnell crashing over to narrow the gap and by the 69th minute a Willie Tonga try brought the scores to 18-20 and a thrilling finish looked to be on the cards. However, the Dragons found the line twice in the dying minutes to put the game beyond the Cowboys' reach in front of a crowd of 11,374. Losing Matt Bowen and Steve Rapira to injury did not help the Cowboys cause, but ultimately the Dragons made the most of their opportunities and denied the Cowboys a fifth straight win. A rampaging performance from Luke O'Donnell and a busy effort from replacement Anthony Watts were stand outs for the Cowboys, while Matt Cooper was a strong performer for the Dragons.
