Source: www.parraeels.com.auThe Pirtek Parramatta Eels pulled off their second come from behind victory in as many weeks in the Toyota Cup, climbing back from 18-6 down to defeat the Gold Coast Titans 28-26 at Skilled Park.
Three tries to winger Ryan Morgan helped the Eels cancel out the deficit, the visitors then withstanding a late Titans surge to claim the win.
The Titans hit the front inside 60 seconds, thanks to a converted try from halfback Cody Walker, but by the tenth minute the Eels had squared the ledger with Nathan Gardner touching down off an Albert Kelly bomb.
A repeat performance from the Titans, with Walker scoring for hooker Kayne Lawton to convert, followed by a blockbusting try to second rower Dominic Walsh saw the home side lead by 18-6 midway through the half
The Eels managed to peg one back with ten minutes remaining in the half, with Morgan scoring wide out after some neat work through the hands, seeing the visitors head to the sheds trailing 18-12.
The Titans however would start the second half as they did the first, with winger Lachlan Creighton touching down wide out for a 22-12 lead.
But the Eels again hit back through a Kelly bomb, the halfback scoring himself after the Titans spilt it close to the line.
Gardner's conversion reduced the gap to four at 22-18.
With momentum swinging their way the Eels took full advantage, swinging it wide again to Morgan who touched down for his second try in the corner. Again Gardner converted from the sideline to give his side the lead at 24-22.
The Titans thought they'd taken back the lead when Walker found his way to the line soon after, only for the referee to rule he'd dropped it in the act of scoring.
On the Eels next trip down the park they'd make it hurt that much more, a beautifully weighted pass from TK Amosa to Rory Brien giving the visitors an overlap, which was converted into points by Morgan who went in for his third try.
From there the Eels looked to shut down the contest, with a Kelly shot at field goal going just wide, however it would the Titans who'd be next ? and ultimately last ? to score, with replacement Ricardo Parata diving over to give the home side a sniff at 28-26.
Lawton was left with a tough assignment to square it up, his sideline conversion attempt going wide, allowing the Eels to close it out for a hard fought win.
