TWEED HEADS v CENTRAL COMETS
Saturday, June 20 @ Cudgen Oval
* Live on ABC TVLONG-SERVING Comets utility Guy Williams has been rewarded for his consistent efforts over the years with a spot on the bench for the Broncos' NRL clash against Cronulla. But Williams' absence is offset by the expected inclusion of giant Broncos prop David Taylor in the Comets team. Central will be desperate to snap its two-match losing streak against the dangerous Seagulls. Tweed is riding high after an upset win over Souths Logan and another big scalp this weekend could pilot them into the top six. Central's Nat Bowman needs eight more points to become the club's highest scorer in the Queensland Cup. He is currently on 391; Heath Egglestone is the record holder with 398 points from 99 tries and one goal.
EASTS TIGERS v NORTHERN PRIDE
Saturday, June 20 @ Langlands Park 2pmEASTS forward Mat Cameron plays his 100th Queensland Cup match. Cameron, a former Ipswich Jets prop, has been in punishing form off the interchange bench in recent weeks. This round 14 clash is make or break for the Tigers, who sit three points off the sixth-placed Devils but have momentum on their side. The Northern Pride has won all three of the previous matches between the teams. The Pride is well placed on the competition table and would give their minor premiership aspirations a real shot in the arm with a win at Langlands Park. The Pride last ventured to Langlands Park in September last year when they were beaten 16-12 by Souths Logan in a thrilling preliminary final.
IPSWICH JETS v SOUTHS LOGAN
Saturday, June 20 @ Briggs Road 3pmBOOM Raiders fullback Josh Dugan lines up for his second appearance for the Souths Logan Magpies this year after being cleared of a striking charge this week. Dugan was controversially sent from the field in the 68th minute of last weekend's clash against Tweed Heads. The video was deemed to be "inconclusive", although the Souths Logan camp was always confident that Dugan would be cleared of any wrongdoing. Glen Turner (Souths Logan) and Brendan Marshall (Ipswich) reach milestones in this round 14 clash. Both players make their 50th appearance in the Queensland Cup. Marshall, a recruit from Mount Isa, has played exclusively for the Jets in the Queensland Cup while Turner has turned out for both Norths and Souths Logan.
MACKAY v SUNSHINE COAST
Saturday, June 20 @ Mackay Juniors 7pmHAVING lost their last eight matches, Mackay Cutters coach Shane Muspratt has looked outside of his main squad for an injection of talent and enthusiasm. Muspratt has named noted hard man Adam Walker in his starting side for the must-win clash against the Sunshine Coast. Walker has been rewarded for his consistent form for Souths in the Mackay and District Rugby League. The Cutters welcome the return of hooker Roy Baira from suspension and Matt Griffin from injury. While the Cutters have slipped to last spot on the Queensland Cup table, the Sunshine Coast has soared into equal sixth on the back of three very impressive wins. However, the Sea Eagles won't have the services of Manly contracted players Vic Mauro and Andrew Suniala this weekend.
NORTHS DEVILS v BURLEIGH
Sunday, June 21 @ Bishop Park 3pmTWO of the competitions most unpredictable teams face off in this all-important showdown at Bishop Park. In an incredible statistic, Burleigh holds down fourth spot despite holding the third worst for-and-against record in the competition. The last time these two teams met at Bishop Park (August 3, 2008), the Bears thumped a hapless Norths outfit 62-12. But a lot has changed since that afternoon; Wendell Sailor no longer runs around with the Bears and the Devils are no longer the easy beats of the Queensland Cup. The Devils have lost more games than they have won this year but the tight nature of the competition has allowed the Nundah boys to cling on to sixth spot on percentages.
WYNNUM MANLY v REDCLIFFE
Sunday, June 21 @ BMD Kougari Oval 3pmTHE prestigious Herald Cup goes on the line in this intriguing Bayside clash. Having won the opening match by 26 points, the Dolphins have one hand already on the trophy. However, Wynnum Manly's main priority is to secure the two competition points and move up the ladder. The battle of the forwards should be a beauty, with both teams fielding experienced 'engine rooms'. Few are more experienced than Redcliffe back-rower Danny Burke, who turns out for his 211th match to become the fourth most capped player in Queensland Cup history. Wynnum Manly has named Broncos contracted player Aaron Gorrell at hooker.
