Source: www.superleague.co.ukAaron Murphy claimed a crucial try as Wakefield Trinity Wildcats got their Engage Super League campaign under way with a hard-fought 18-10 win away to Harlequins RL.
In a game that saw two red cards and plenty of physicality, full-back Murphy touched down to settle matters just as the hosts looked to force their way back into the contest.
Wakefield's Richard Moore and the home side's Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook were the players dismissed in the closing stages.
It proved an error-strewn, penalty-littered game, and in the opening half it was the visitors who held the upper hand.
Using their superior physical strength to bully Harlequins in the tackle, the Wildcats spent most of the opening 15 minutes camped in their hosts' half.
A combination of poor final passes and excellent defence kept the scoreboard blank until the 13th minute, when Wakefield finally took a deserved lead.
After a succession of drives close to the home line, Danny Brough teased a kick to the corner, and Daryl Millard leapt highest above Chris Melling to claim and crash over.
Having been under the cosh virtually from the start, Quins claimed a try of their own with their first real attack.
It was a supremely well-crafted move, with Chad Randall and Luke Gale combining to put Ben Jones-Bishop into space, and the full-back - on his debut - scorched through the gap to touch down.
Suddenly it became a much more even contest, with the hosts giving as good as they got.
But Wakefield were still a danger whenever they had the ball, and the hosts were grateful for Tony Clubb's quick-thinking when he smothered another Brough kick through.
The handling errors and penalties continued, ruining any chance of a rhythm and it was a piece of inspiration that was to see the visitors move further ahead.
Gale sent a routine kick through which was gathered by Murphy, and the full-back set off on a weaving run which sliced open the defence, before offloading for Ben Jeffries to storm home.
Although the visitors had the edge at the interval, Quins hauled themselves back into the contest straight after the restart thanks to Jones-Bishop.
The on-loan Leeds 21-year-old stretched over the line, evading three tacklers, after Oliver Wilkes had gone close to touching down himself.
The match was in the balance, and Quins hung in thanks to some excellent goal-line defence, Randall making a stunning tackle on Jeffries when he looked sure to claim his second try.
But the pressure looked as though it would have to tell, and the Wildcats finally moved further ahead when Murphy took an inside pass and barged over.
Harlequins tried to force their way back into the contest but the visitors were succeeding in holding them at arm's length, although Brough missed a chance to extend the lead when he pulled a penalty wide.
Only gutsy defence was keeping the hosts in it, and Clubb was called on to make another last-ditch effort after Luke George strode clear.
In a ragged final 10 minutes Quins tried to attack from all over the pitch but were kept in check by a determined Wakefield defence, with both Moore and McCarthy-Scarsbrook seeing red as tempers flared.

Source: www.league.quins.co.ukSeveral new signings will make their first Super League appearance for Harlequins Rugby League when they host Wakefield Wildcats this Saturday (3pm).
Matt James and Ben Jones-Bishop have both been named in head coach Brian McDermott's 19 man squad, as has Oliver Wilkes who is set to line up against his former club at the Stoop.
Also named in the squad is 20-year-old back rower Ben Bolger who could make his Super League debut against the Wildcats.
Bolger only began playing rugby league at the age of 15 and has rapidly progressed through the Harlequins academy system. In 2009 he was named 'Reserves Player of the Year' at the club's end of season awards and has also represented London and the South.
McDermott said:
"Ben Bolger is another of our young Londoners who has worked very hard throughout our youth development system to earn a shot at Super League.
"He had a great season in the reserves last year and was solid in our victory over London Skolars last week.
"Similarly, Ben Jones-Bishop, Oliver Wilkes and Matt James have got a really good understanding of what we're trying to achieve both offensively and defensively and have fitted really well into our squad."
